Out of interest what size arrows are people using for indoor?

2312 X7's, 100gn 8% nibb point, 3" straight vanes...they work very nicely, I figure on an average round they give me a couple of extra points which the ACE's don't quite get:D:D:D
I read an article about a bloke using feathers instead of the plastic ones with a fair bit of success, might be tempted to give it a shot to see if it really works or not

Ray Morgan was using them for a fair while at our Indoor. His best was a 298 with them. He went back to plastic because they are more durable. I doubt it will make too much difference at 18m.

I am now using carbon Safari's, with 175 fletches.
Reason: cheap, accurate, and reasonably large diameter. Also use them for field.
I used to shoot 2314's with feathers, and shot 300 three times, but found that they bent too easily.
Last year at the State Indoor I shot 2213 X7's, and shot several 298's, but again they bent too easily.
I shoot 2312s cos they're big and fun and cut lines.
Also, testing that "Avatars" thingey on the profile. What the hell is an Avatar Marcus????

See how I have a little pict on the left of my posts? That's an avatar. I have 2 ways of adding one. Upload your own 80x80 pict. Or select a pre chosen one. However the pre chosen bit is broken, but will try and fix later today.
It's used on other forums. It doesn't have to be a picture of yourself.

I use my normal target arrows (520 ace's 1.75" diamond vanes)
3 of them easily fit in the X

:D Most of the people over here are using 2512 or 2613 X-7's for NFAA at 18 Meters or 20 yards. These are shot almost full length with 150-200 grain points with 4" feathers. For NAA which has a 23 diameter limit, they shoot 2312's or 2314's with 3" Feathers. Outdoors, most people go to vanes.

Hey JBird, nice running into you on the other side of the globe! Any way as per Darrin Mcutcheon's advice, I have been shooting 2613's cut to 26.5" w/ 180 grain tip and three inch feather fletched with slight offset. These are working wonderfully for me. This concept throws spine out the window but I'm convinced now that it does not matter at 20 yards (18 meters) or whatever you use to measure. Works for me and it would probably work for you too if you dont have nay pre-concieved notions that it wont - this is the biggest key. Believe in whatever you shoot. Sean

Sean, I have six of the 26 1/2 inch 2613's made up but then went with the 2512's because they were more forgiving. But I shot a LOT of spots over the winter and my form has improved. I may break them out and give them another try.

I was shooting 2315's full legth for a little while and found them good, however the length kept making them bounce on the rest aws I drew back. Sometimes I would draw 8 times before the thing stayed on. Am trying CarbonAreos now, thinnerm but hoping they group better.

Marcus,
What type rest are you shooting those 2315's off of? (man, 2315's are stiff) . Most idoor shooters over here are either shooting the Pro Tuner rest or the ARC Systeme fall a way or some other fall a way. I have a hard time keeping the arrow on the rest if I use the Pro Tuner (particularly with skinny carbons) but no problems at all with the ARC.
You are talking about shooting indoors aren't you.

It was a Golden Key. I cut the arrows down and was fine after that, justtoo much arrow out the front. Yeah just indoor use only. I shoot ACE's (and soon Doo Sungs) for outdoors. I now use a Bernadini drop down and the arrows stay on fine. My ACE's were fine on the Golden Key.

Marcus,
Where is this forum based? Australia? Where are most of your members from so far?

Yeah it's hosted and administrated out of Melbourne Australia. About 75% of members are Australian, however the numbers are evening up more and more as more people find it. It's not exclusive Australian.
Most members come from Victoria in Australia where the word has been spreading faster due to being linked to from 2 of our biggest clubs,
Sherbrooke: http://archeryvic.alphalink.com.au/
and
Diamond Valley http://www.dva.asn.au
thanks for your interest and posts. We are hoping to build this forum up as it doesn't have any ties to archery companies which can cause issues.
Marcus, just found this site. Very nice.
In my area I have noticed that the compunds generaly shoot 2312-2314 with around 100-125 grain points, with 4' feathers.
The recurve archers shoot the same arrow for both indoor and outdoor with a few exceptions. I have found that my wife shoots better shores with her ACC vs Alu. While I am very close to the same score with carbon.( drop maybe 2 points on average).

Thanks Reed. How did you find it BTW?
Yeah my wife shoots better indoor with her X10's over bigger arrows. I think that's a tuning issue though. Also she is more confident in her X10's.

Hey Marcus I had a look at the new carbon express CXL shafts at the 3daaa shoot at grafton on the weekend, they are a very fat shaft but are still fita legal (just), they seem like avery high quality shaft, very straight and very well finished. It should be a very good 3d bow and will make a top indoor arrow.

Are they the PSE shafts Noel?

Marcus the arrow is made by carbon express, it is 9 mil in diameter and spines quite lightly for its size

Do you have a link to them at all? There are PSE one's too that look good for 3D/indoor.

Hi Marcus, in my neck of the woods most of the better 3d shooters tried the cxl shafts but most went back to acc's or the standard cx shaft. The cxl's are very brittle, and do not stand up well. One shooter in my group this weekend broke 2 at the nock. One was a hit from behind, the other he hit a arrow in the target and cracked the shaft at the nock. The cx that was in the target was fine.( other than a broke nock) and the cxl was toast. On the plus side they seem to be very straight and the weights seem to be very close.

Marcus;
Honest Aluminum - 2114 X-7's. No use wasting money on indoor arrows in my mind, X-7's do the trick for me.

Hi !!!!!
Carbon Express and the ones that PSE distributes ( Carbon Force ) are from the same company, and are the same arrows, only diferent name :D
They are really nice arrows
I shoot my 1914 X7 Aluminiums for both Indoor and Target (with a recurve). I only shoot Indoor once a year and I have very limited funds.

Here most people are using 2613's, 2512's or Line Jammers. I have shot 26's for awhile, but I find that they are just a little too stiff. I prefer using 2512's or 2413's. I will be shooting 2413's for indoor this year. If those don't work, I will put the 2512's back on.

I shoot 2613 X-7 Pro-series arrows made up bu Tru-Flight 4" vanes 150Gr. pt.
Been shooting Tru-Flight Pro series arrows for a couple of years and there great. They shoot in the same hole with a Hooter Shooter.
Target 1
I shoot 2613 X7 shafts with 180 grain points, 30" long and 5" helical feather fletching. They are very stiff in spine for my 50# bow, but they score well for me. If I shorten them, they become pretty critical and scores will suffer. I added the Magnocks this year and increased my little X count from around 20 to 23-24.

I shoot 2613 X7s with 4 inch feathers. I just bought the bunch from my shooting buddy. Never looked at a chart. Never paper tested. Just started shooting. In seven league nights I have only dropped one 4. These things have a176 fps. We are talking barge. But they wallow all the way into the X.
