View Full Version : HELP!!! COMPOUND PROBLEMS

My shooting has rapidly slumped down into a major depression over the last month, and I cannot figure out the problem, perhaps someone has a suggestion, as I will be all ears, believe me. I will describe the symptoms of my affliction:

Through paper I get a bullet hole (or if anything a slightly fletch-high tear which seems to usually work best anyway), and this is so at all distances from point blank out to about 15 metres. (Bullet hole tears look really cool when you use spin wings as i do!!)

The flight of the arrows is immaculate, with no perceptable wobble or anything.

Until a month ago, the group was sensational right out to 90 m, allowing for some pretty good shooting.

NOW: flight's good, tear's still good, but sometimes a really well executed shot will actually miss the target butt, usually to the left. others simply go out into the 4 or 5, and perhaps a couple in the ten. This is at 60 m.

It is very strange, the arrow appears to leave the bow and travel in a different direction to where I point it each time. I cannot for the life of me work out why. Everything is set up well and I am not shooting the damn thing badly, but the arrows just go everywhere!!!

HELP!!!

By the way, I tested for clearance and there are no problems there.

Jim Park and I tried to work out what was going on and we couldn't come to a conclusion. It could be wrist torque, it could be release angle, but these seem to be alright.

Perhaps there is a saviour out there with simply a new idea!!!!

I believe you shoot a similar style bow to the Thunderbolt (short, reflex and single cam).
I had all sorts of torque problems with one I shot for a few weeks. Have you tried the anti torque technique Jim worte up in a Glade issue? If you torque the bow on purpose do you get the same results?
Are all your arrows numbered so you can get an idea what arrows are doing it? How often does it happen? Every end? Every distance?
Have you changed your stabilizer, release aid, sight, arrow rest etc in the last month?

Some of these you may have checked but it helps us to know these as we havn't seen it happen. From here it sounds like random clearence, torqueing, faulty rest or sight, twisted limbs (possible). Check strings for breaks too.

Let us know how you go.

Not too long before the World Target, Bryce Lee was getting a left-right group. It turned out to be that there was a little slack in the bolts holding the launcher arm in and it was moving shot to shot. Tightened them up and it promptly stopped.

SOMETHING HAS COME LOOSE ON YA! I'd check everything on the bow for tightness. Be safe.

Mike,
Compound bow? If so, check each axle for missing spacers beside the cams. Just had this problem recently on a Hoyt Aspen.

Not getting the problem any more peoples, but thanks for the input.

By the way, nothing was loose, and it did turn out to be form (like it usually is). A Pretty dramatic form slump it was, but it was proven to be a form issue when I shot James Park's bow instead of mine (same draw length). Guess what, same thing happened. Just had to gradually shoot my way out of the slump, which i beleive I have done now.

Mike,
Sometimes it is difficult to say to someone that, after all, the bow is just a simple machine, capable of repetition, shot after shot if we allow it to do so!
