Great shooting guys..congrats to all. As some will know I was supposed to be there to do the first aid for the whole event. Unfortunetly my health took a very sudden and unexpected turn for the worst last week requirng urgent surgery yesterday. Am home and the prognosis is good am hoping to get down to see some of you as the week progresses. I am so sorry I missed the great shooting yesterday and that I may have let some people down.
Have fun and shoot well.
Kind Regards,
Shane Edwards.. ( Chris Edwards. Dad)

Marcus had the results online even before they were officially posted at the event. Great effort (and an excellent results system - the best).
John Dudley shot very well indeed on day one. Missed his 1400 due to one end at 90M when the wind moved the groups to the right and he scored just a 53.
Clint's 360 27X at 30M was excellent.
Deonne's 1307 was very nice shooting.
There was a lot of wind on day 2, so the scores were quite a bit lower.
The weather for the clout today is excellent.
Peter King is the new "Urban Archery V shoot Champion of the World".
Chris Schach is the new Internode fun event Champion.

John Dudley uses a Mathews Apex (of course). X10's, Sureloc sight and scope, Carter release.
At the Nationals he has now given three seminars (Sunday, Monday and Tuesday). They have been excellent, with many attending. He will provide another on Friday.

Yeah, a great job done by Marcus keeping us all up to speed with what's happening 8)

I watched John Dudley shoot the 70M on the first day (should have been worrying about my own shooting, but that is the way it goes).
His first end was a very good 60, then 58, 60, 59, 58, 59. No arrows missed the 10 ring by more than a few cm.
Clint's 360 27X at 30M - no arrows touching or even near the 10 ring line. Very good shooting indeed. New National Championships Record (and not far from the World Record).
There was a very good competition for 2nd, 3rd and 4th between Pat, Dennis and Zoran. Never more than a couple of points between them.
I managed to get the old buggers 50M National Championships Record (345).
Leigh Cornish managed to get the really old buggers 30M National Championships Record (357).
(Leigh and I both shot Open, of course).

A good Archer never blames his equipment.
Who says I'm blaming my bow? :-?
The seminars have been awesome, well worth it and worth a trip to the Nats for IMHO.
James Park
26-04-2006, 11:25 AM
Yes, agreed.
The seminars have been very good.
We are paying for John's trip from the Nationals profit from 2005 and with kind assistance from Mathews.
There is no fee to attend them, and I would guess we have had about 80 to 90 people each night.
Last Friday John went through how bows are made (a tour of the Mathews factory).
On Sunday and Monday he showed how to set up a bow (with lots of very useful detail). He used Clint's bow as as example. He also covered assembling arrows (he showed us a picture of his test end for his X10's : 120 at 70M with 11 X's).
On Tuesday he talked about how to shoot field rounds (he is the current Silver Medalist from the FITA World Field Championships).
He has been very happy to talk to archers during the Championships, and many have done so.
James Park
26-04-2006, 11:29 AM
My ulterior motive in getting John to the Nationals:
Aside from getting some very substantial value for our archers, and some very good competition for Clint and others, I want to see this sort of thing happen more frequently in the future. I think it just might, judging from some of the comments I have heard from important people.
Peter King
26-04-2006, 11:49 AM
Agreed. John's seminars have been excellent....incisive and clearly drawn (drawled  ) points on all aspects of tuning.
NOCK HUNTER
26-04-2006, 11:51 AM
Sounds great Jim.
Did anyone manage to video the seminars?
Gilli
26-04-2006, 12:17 PM
I am not an archer, my son is the archer in the family.
Listening to John Dudley speak, I felt that I could set up the bow myself!
I don't think that I will try it though. He is an interesting speaker who can keep everyones attention without being boring - even speaking on archery!
The weather is looking good for clout shooters today!

Mr Kuru,
Thanks mate - I'm pretty pleased since the bow I was shooting, a Merlin XT with Vipers, I have only had a few weeks.
I was also playing around with some Gold Tips. I got them two days before I left Tassie, put them together, got some sights, and decided to take a punt on how they would go. Great in the calm, not so good at 70m in a strong wind, but that may also just be me :D
BTW shouldn't forget the results by Stephen Clifton from NZ, he just kept putting those arrows straight down the middle :o

I'll vouch for Gilli there.
It takes ALOT of work to get all the scores entered into the system after each end to have the results available so quickly.
Marcus had them ready so quickly because:
-the admin people doing the data entry have clearly been working well
-the system he designed is excellent.

I agree ;)
John Dudley is a great guy, his seminars were very helpful, and he was very happy to help out too.
I saw lots of archers (myself included) asking him questions about their archery and he always took the time to help out.
Of course John is a fantastic archer too, and along with our top guns he was great to watch - especially in the matchplay.
Getting a pro like John over for our Nats is an excellent idea, and money well spent. I think the value to the archers participating was immense, and I hope to see it continue.
I think the challenge will be to get somebody to do it as well as John did this year.

Just got home from the Nationals after 13 hours in the car :o
John Dudley and 'The One' provided a great exhibition of shooting under pressure in the Steel Turkey shoot.
Both smashed arrows (X10's i think) at 70m but still managed to get them in the target.
John nailed the turkey at 90m despite much heckeling and blasts from the hand held hooter/siren thingy. Andrew let down 7 or 8 times at 90m due to much heckeling and Baa-ing and opted not to smash another X10.
It was great to watch and a lot of fun.
James Park
30-04-2006, 09:35 PM
The "Steel Turkey": kindly loaned to Twin City for the Nationals by Sherbrooke Archers. The hole in the centre is about the size of the normal 10 ring. Hence not real easy at 90M (or 70M).

Nope, the MunterStick 1.0 still is in fine form, and well shootable 8)

Getting a pro like John over for our Nats is an excellent idea, and money well spent. I think the value to the archers participating was immense, and I hope to see it continue.
I think the challenge will be to get somebody to do it as well as John did this year.
Agreed...and perhaps to find a way of recording the seminars by way of video or short notes to share with those who could not make it to the Nationals.

Extremely disappointing. I was expecting to see it die, and it didn't oblige.
I was partly sated by the total destruction of one of John's arrows though. Still waiting for the official ruling on whether substitutions were allowed ;-)
I have put some of my photos up here

Excuse the dominance of longbow archers but that is my area of interest. Peter Bennett will be supplying more images soon.

While John Dudley's scores (correctly) got a lot of prominance during the Nationals, we should also note Clint's wonderful performance in the individual matchplay. Have a look at his scores for each round - truely impressive.

Very true!
Was Clint's 118 a new Australian record?
Great shooting ;)

Looks like it - both National and Tournament, as was the 36 arrows finals total of 117 + 117 + 117 = 351 from his final 3 matches.

For your information, there were 10 addition errors in the matchplay results from 1/8 round onwards, made by the archers (8 by recurvers, 2 by compounders, 4 from the men and 6 from the ladies). Not real good.

Certainly not good mathematicians (errors of up to 10 points).

Mixed (but the best mathematicians seem to be the older males).

Having done the trans tasman and then the Sr Nationals I can't say that the adults were better than the juniors.
In factwe debated throwing out 3 cards totally for not completing all their details, about 10 people almost lost their field scores for failing to place their competitor number on the cards.
Quite a few people had signed for cards with different final scores, guess which one they got.
These details archers MUST get better at their scoring, it's terribly bad and pretty soon I can see archers simply being disqualified for it.

In the matchplay, the ladies recurve had by far the most errors, and had we simply thrown out the cards in error (as we threatened at the Team Managers' meeting) the results would have been very different.

I can sympathise slightly with this one, since there wasn't anywhere specific to write it on the card - but it's not like we weren't reminded about it!
One could also suggest that single scoring in the matchplay didn't help the issues there.

The Men's Compound Individual was the best - no errors.

The AA Records Committee has input the results from the Nationals field event to the FITA World Ranking list. You can find it at:
http://www.archeryranking.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=108&Itemid=1&lang=en
Note that to get included in this list the event needs to be a FITA Arrowhead registered event (and you do need to tell the Records Committee where to find the results).

I don't understand why it's not done now. Trust me after you get DQ'ed 1 or 2 times you get the hang of it  .....well I learned the hard way in Golf and ignorance wasn't accepted.

Typical Aussies, taking credit for our stuff ;-)
Stephen wasn't actually in the official NZ team, which may have had something to do with why he was down differently to the rest of us.

Ah but he can't just disown us - under FITA rules ANZ would have to let him shoot as an Australian, at the moment at least :-P

Changes to the National Championship records and Tournament Records are now online at:
http://www.archery.org.au/scripts/cgiip.exe/WService=ASP0009/ccms.r?pageid=10364
Full lists are under CURRENT RECORDS and just the changes are noted under RECENT CHANGES. Remember National Championship Records may only be shot at a Nationals. Some may also be Tournament Records but will not appear for 2 months to allow for the claim period for those records.
If you think there are any errors please PM me as mistakes do occur.
For new National Championship Records from the recent event at Morwell there were:
almost 100 individual records (some of the 75 listed were broken a twice during the event so, as usual and as is fair to the archers, certificates will be issued for both new scores although only the higher one appears in the final records list)
5 individual matchplay records
15 team matchplay records as teams now shoot 24 rather than 27 arrow matches. There is also a new division enabling non-RGB teams consisting of 3 AA members not nominated to represent their RGB in the teams event to also set records. RGB Teams may of course claim these records too as they are considered to be "Open" records, compared with the RGB teams ones which may only be held by nominated RGB teams.
