What additional speed might you gain by increasing draw length from 27.5" to 28", 50lb, currently shooting 265fps. I have been thinking that an extra 1/2 inch would'nt hurt and I had someone concur with this thought today so form should only be improved.

If all else stays the same, you can expect around a 5fps increase with 1/2" draw length increase.

...that is to say, as a general rule of thumb about 10fps per inch increased is a reasonable expectation.

;)

I wouldn't do it as an exercise in gaining speed - but if your form dictates that you should be 1/2" longer, you should do it.

I'm thinking about getting a compound. I'm a little limited in choices because of my draw length (>32" with a recurve).
What draw length / draw weight / arrow weight are the IBO speeds calculated with? What sort of speed could be expected shooting 360 grain AC/E's from a 60 pound Old Glory (fast modules) @ 31 or so inches?

IBO Spec standard is based on a 70lb bow shooting a 350gn arrow at 30" Draw length.

Shooting ACE's at 360gn with 60lb will slow you down from IBO spec some, but the extra inch of draw length at 31" will give you around 10 extra over IBO spec.

FWIW My Allegiance at 56lb, a shade under 28.5" is shooting my 382gn Triple 300's at 271 fps according to Accurate Sights.

Not too shabby.

;)

Flipping between the fast and smooth mods at 70m makes about 7 metres difference on the sight tape.

just wondering.. FPS-frames per second? how is it calculated?

Oh God! The questions we get asked sometimes. It's FEET per second, not FRAMES. Like Miles Per Hour, Kilometres Per Hour, etc. A measure of speed.
