G'day,

Why would an arrow kick rear left ,on its way to a ,say, 70 mt target.
I can see it sometimes. Other times not.At about 30-40 Mt's I notice it.

Would it be me torquing the bow? Rest too far in/out?Paper tuning gives occasional left tear. But not always.

The spines OK I think ,29" 85Gr FP's.60LBs.400 Axissss

Suggestions :D welcome.

Try paper testing at 1 yard intervals from 3-15 yards to make sure that you are not in the middle of a wiggle. I see my arrows best at about 40m as it seems that is the distance they fly along my line of sight. Don't worry bout the spine, you are well and truely in the ball park.

For the bow set up, put your nocking point 1/8 above the exact centre of the hole you screw the arrow rest into. Put the middle of your rest 13/16th of an inch out from the riser face. You should not need to do anything else to it. These are the Mathews bow set up rules of thumb. (I reckon the Apex 7 is slightly different though with a zero nocking point)

I personally mucked around looking at paper results and found tear wise, 1 and 1/16th was the best flight for a certain arrow(2312 X7) I was using but at 13/16 they grouped better. Remember, there is no column on the score card for arrow flight.

I've just been working on this same issue.

If you get your bare shafts in the group, or where you want them vs. the fletched group at 70m, you can simply tune your center shot location to straighten out the arrow.

There is a very nice section in Rick McKinney's book on how to do this. Simply move the button the direction the tip is facing as it comes off the bow. If the nock is kicking right and the tip left off the bow, you simply move the button a 1/4 turn to the left, then shoot again, adjusting your button tension to get the bare shaft in the proper location again.

This may take a few iterations of button tension and centershot, but will give very true arrow flight with the bare shaft where you want it.

Remember though that this is some ultra fine tuning, and if you are not very close with your setup and form to begin with, this exercise will really piss you off.

By the way which arrows are you trying to tune? I've found that X10's like to have the center shot very close to right down the middle while X7's and ACE's like to have it out looking more "normal" with the tip just outside the center of the string.

Cheers,
Pete
