Recurve or compound?

someone told me at the Nationals that the X-Vanes were no good for recurve....

Compound or recurve is a good question.
Generally because the arrow velocity is greater for compound you require less fletch area (the force on the fletches goes up as the velocity squared).
For recurve I would not go less than a 1.75" fletch, while for compound you could go to 1.5".

Bohning mini blazers or Xvanes

Most of the good shots use FFS1.87 or FFP 1.75! I have found the base on the Bohning products to wide for skinny shafts like X10's, giving insufficent clearance when using tuner blade, golden guide type rests.

Did he mention what size he was using? I'm thinking of getting the shield cut ones to try. Maybe at 1.8 inches. That's 0.025 inches higher than the Eastons I'm using now. Wonder whether that'd make a difference?

He shoots compound.

I've put X vanes (with a couple of degrees helical) on nine of my new X-10's. They go very nicely out of my recurve.
Before I fletch the other three I'll try them with spinnies and compare them to the X vanes.

What does whoever won the last world target champs use? Whatever it is, use that. (I am serious by the way).

I don't know exactly, because I threw the packet out. They are the little ones :P

About 75% of the top 200 compound shooters in the world are using the Flex Fletch 187's in shield cut or 175's in parabolic on X10 shafts. There are good reason for this.
