I was just told that to get your mb or gmb you can shoot two of the scores at your club any time you want as long as they are signed by the two other people you are shooting with. And the third score must be shot at a ranking round or a tournament obviously the scores need to be high enough to qaulify also is this procedure correct

Yeah that is correct, plus the round must contain 90m if you are a man.

The target round shot in an event must be your National Championship round for your age/gender/bow, and the 2 club rounds need to be of at least 100 arrows as well, as as Marcus mentioned, having at least one range over the maximum distance you'd shoot at the nationals. You can't just get 3 people together on a good day, the club shoots need to be sanctioned by the club and on the club program.
Target rounds used must be from Schedule 9A of the AA Rules, so the only other rounds available to archers required to shoot the Men's FITA are the Long Brisbane and the Long Sydney.
The AA Rule Book has it all in there. Chapter 4 for the requirements, and target rounds listed in Chapter 9.

4.2.2.2 ...must be submitted by that archer's club, certifying that the conditions have been observed...
4.2.3.1 ... and under Association or FITA rules...
A club recorder cannot guarantee and sign that conditions have been obverved unless it is a programmed club shoot.
