Temps for Canberra for Monday/min-2, max 10. Sounds like he might have to get a heat pad for his homebrew. If he was a medalist in another sport he would own the pub. I don't know why he is bothering. As many have said in this sport "Dont give up your day job"

I think it's sad to not do something because it won't end up as a big money earner. Money aint everything.

I know what you mean Marcus but tell that to the boys who have worked their guts out for a little enhanched life at the end. As I said from the experienced who have been through the system the word is "Dont give up your day job".

if they worked their guts out it is because that they enjoy the sport, not for rewards

That is the reality of most sports.
We make the mistake of looking at the huge successes who make millions and think "why not me?" and not at the thousands of those who just didn't get anything from it.
Even sports like Pro Basketball are full of talented people who made nothing.

I dunno. Tim and the other AIS scholars are really young still. They are still at the age where they don't really have to support themselves and can spend all their free time training.

If I was Tim I'd go for it. He's like 17 now? Last chance to go all out at something with few if any consequences.

But that's the thing, unless you're supported you can't give up your day job and train all day, you have to support yourself with your day job and train when you can, which for most people isn't often doesn't usually result in high performance.

But we aren't talking about everybody. Just the people who go through "the system", which is the AIS now (I guess?).

I agree with Clare on this one regarding Tims age. Anyone at the AIS still has to be supported by someone

May I ask something...
How does it work with AIS and archery in therms of money? How much an archer from the National team gets? Is it just a help or an actually salary? How about prizes?

Same where I am. No money for this sport. In some countries, the actual money comes from the sponsors. Like in Korea for example. Maybe you get a reward or something if you do the country proud but other than that, the only payment's in the form of a good coach.

In Malaysia, it's even worse. Despite the fact that we won the gold and silver in the men's compound division in the recent SEA games, the compounders are actually not welcome at the national training ground due to it being under the head coach (Korean by the way) who's a recurve coach and employed to train the recurvers.
