Hi,
I've brought my son a browning micro midas 3, with draw weight of 20-30#. I unscrewed the limb bolts to the recommended max (4 turns) and it is still to much for him its on 20. Can I safely take the bolts out another couple of turns?. Anything else I can do to lower the draw weight need to get it to about 16-17.

cheers

I shot a 55/70 bow on 48 pounds for ages(10 turns and some dodgy cable work) and still have my best in competition score with it. I think that with a more parallel limb, I would try and stay fairly close to manufacturers recomendations but looking at the Micro Midas, it has very little pre stress and I could not see too much of an issue with a turn or so further out especially at low draw weights. If you are really concerned, press it, remove the string and unpress it. wind the bolts all the way out and see just how many turns from flush you go. Go half that and you will be fine.

I'd be worried about unscrewing them just that little too far as it would be very dangerous I think. I'd stick with whatever the maker of the bow says is within safe limits of that bow. I don't really know anything as I'm a total newbie myself still but maybe he just needs to practice building his strength with it or in some fashion that will allow him to safely use it instead.

I don't know of any sadly but I'm certain there will be many people here able to give some good suggestions. Maybe theres even bows with a lighter draw that he can use untill he has the ability to use this one.

Don't forget to mark the bolts so you can see if they are moving when shooting.

I'm shooting a 60# bow on 40#, but I'm led to believe it has a lot to do with the speed and the limbs and all that jazz. :)

If unsure with this action go and get some longer limb bolts and Loctite them in.

I have done as New Tricks suggested a couple of times and had no problems.

This is what I did to all my kids bows a few years ago, when they were smaller. And gave the string a bit of a twist, this shortened the draw length as well as lowering the draw weight.

The bows all shot fine.
