it's exam time for pretty much everyone around the place at the moment, except for those lucky people who don't any this semester...

so good luck to you all...i had my first one today and i think i've discovered a previously unknown talent for writing complete BS and making it sound like the right answer :) it's only taken me 4 years of uni learn how to do that, lol, i wish i'd picked up on it sooner...

and i hope everyone's archery isn't suffering too much from study, i know mines gone out the window lately :(

LOL, I wish the government saw it that way - maybe then I wouldn't have to pay ;)

Seriously, though, they are quite beneficial and in a lot of cases really encourage thinking beyond the confines that someone is used to. In my humble opinion, as much as they are 'crapped on' (apparently literally, according to the author of the grafitti above...) they are really beneficial...but then, I would say that given I am completing mine currently :D

see, don't get that, the whole stereotype that arts students are absolute bums

okay i admit, there were some really strange/spaced out people in some of my ancient history subjects and in the religion and philosophy subjects i did as electives there were alot more, but in the archaeology major there weren't, we had to work hard to pass, over 50% of the subjects were actually science and geology subjects, and they didn't make it easy

and there's so many people these days who actually do arts cause they didn't make the cut for the course thay actually wanted to do, and so many people who do dual degrees with arts because it's the only way they can tailor/specialise their other degree, so i dont think it gets given the credit it deserves

i think for too long it's been marketed as the degree you do when you want to go to uni but don't know what you want to do cause there is so much freedon of choice in it and so has come to be known the 'uni bums course' but it is the only avenue for some courses of study, such as history, literature, anthropology and so on

In QLD with the OP system, to get into Arts it was last time i knew a 7 which is only two below Architecture which i think is a 5 and Law is like a 2 or 3, and so with 25 being the lowest OP score you can get, it's up there pretty high!

Hannah

A mate of mine from school is doing it and only has 12 contact hours... what a bludger.

1. I thought the general consensus was that there was to be no 'inter-faculty' war.

2. Just because you have few contact hours, does not mean that you have a lot of time on your hands...I know I am currently studying for one, quite enjoying it too, but struggling with juggling working 18 hours a week and my 'bludging' 8 hours a week contact. There is a substantial amount of reading that needs to be completed - has anyone ever bothered asking a Law student how many contact hours they have? They often have less than most Arts students.

3. Most of the people that I know who do an arts degree (excluding those, for the sake of discussion, who are doing a double degree) are not 'pot-smokers', actually have a brain in their heads, can argue a point very well (so you could have a 'war' with them should you really feel a need) and actually enjoy learning. There is always going to be an element, but from what I know, ALL faculties have this element - it is not just found in Arts.

Now please...if it makes you all feel better about yourselves feel free to continue, but I am sure there are more worthwhile past-times that exist...maybe archery???

Marcus

1. I don't count, I didn't go to uni.

2. Engineering and science students have as much homework as Arts students but with subject matter based on reality.

3. Yes but they can only argue from the side of an ideaist and not a realist or extremist which is far more interesting. ;)

I'd swap the Boags / Cascade one - Boags is rubbish! Cascade is good.

mmmmmmm WA beers. Lets see: Anything by Little Creatures is good, but their new one "Bright Ale" is the best. Matilda Bay make all the good beers - Redback, Rooftop Red, Bohemian Pilsner, the list goes on. Then there is Feral Brewing Company - their White beer is as good or better than Hoegaarden. Basically WA make the best beers in Australia, followed closely by James Squire and Coopers.

**** beers: Swan and Emu.

Fosters isn't crash hot in Vic. Crown is OK, Carlton Premium is better, VB and Carlton draght are good everyday beers!

Possibly the worst beer in Autralia is a toss up between West End and Hahn Ice.

... but go on... keep going, feel free to discuss varieties of beer, i don't mind, my exams are over now so the thread's all yours... :D

Alright for some, I've got one this afternoon and my last on Friday.
Despite me knowing nothing about PDE's or finite differences, I'm posting on AF rather than studying. Sometimes I wonder how I made it this far :-)

Yeah thanks, looks like I'll need it - despite several hours of study, I have learned nothing useful for the exam (although I have reiterated to myself the importance of getting your ()'s right).
