It will be a very intresting game
will Aus bring Brazil down to there level of play?

I think it'll be their only hope of obtaining a draw or a reasonable outcome. I don't think we saw Brazil at their best against Croatia and they'll be on the improve on Sunday.

Might be embarrassing if Brazil beat Australia by more than 4 goals :p

Now offering 25/1 for Aus to win by 2 or more goals and also 6/1 for the draw.

Who will be holding the money? Jim maybe- could trust him after the hat he had on at the Nationals. There better odds then what the TAB are offering Australia 6.50 to 1 to win/draw:o .

Don't think that'll happen, we've beaten them before 1- 0 a couple years back when they were number 1. Our team has come a long way since then too. Specially with the new coach. But your right, it would be pretty embarrasing if we were cleaned up 4+ - 0. We just gotta watch out for their mid-fielders and we should be right, their strikers aren't up to speed at the moment.

I'll be watching. Being behind the rest of Australia does have its advantages every so often.

Got to be happy with 0-0 at half time
They played well too. Pleased to say my bet's looking shakey at this stage. Gotta love Viduka (except with penalties).

Well, what can I say.
You Aussies did better than expected I think, considering the opposition (on paper anyway).
The scoreline flatters the Brazilians, you expected a little more from the game and but for poor finishing, you may have got yourselves a point.
Not all doom and gloom though, you've still got a realistic chance of qualification in to the next round, and the team has certainly gained respect from other nations.

Even with this loss it appears we still have a strong hope of gettin into the group of 16, as croatia tied with japan all we need is a draw with croatia and we are through assuming that japan wont beat brazil.
... assuming that japan wont beat brazil.
I hope they don

Don't worry Bia, with Ronaldo and Ronaldinho being protected species and refs blowing the wistle if you even go near them you'll be fine
andrewf87
20-06-2006, 08:52 PM
Yeh what a load of rubbish, i have heard many times that lots of people say, including coaches of the opposite team say in media interviews how we are a rough team and i beleive that gets into the refs head and they are harsh on us.
StevenB
20-06-2006, 09:01 PM
looks like FIFA has upheld Australia's claims about the ref.
It's not just that we are a physical side, it is also the brazilian stars coming out at the start of the cup and asking the refs to protect the stars of the cup

Yeh, Marcus says soccer is gay, i wont agree with that but the way those Brazilian players are ...

The Brazilian superstars were 'well protected' by the referee. Anytime an Australian went near then, he blew the whistle.
I don't think the Aussies can be described as naive as most of them are playing for respectable European clubs but I think they do tend to be a bit rough, certain ones especially.
Thinking about a few that play in the English league some are certainly a bit handy:
Danny Tiatto (Used to be club captain of my local team Leicester City), hard as nails as far as footballer go. I'd certainly rather have him in my team than my opponents.
Mark Viduka is a tough, handy player that's played the game at the highest level with Leeds and Celtic. You can't play at that level by just being rough.
Kevin Muscat, now he is one rough player. The fella is a lunatic. He'd kick his own team mates if he had to.
Harry Kewell isn't rough in the slightest and I'd imagine he's the most successful Aussie to play the game, with exception to Craig Johnstone perhaps, although he never made the step up to an International.
Leicester City also once had a certain Steve Corica. I'm not sure if he played in the National team but he could hardly be described as rough. You'd be more likely to be tackled harder by Dame Edna Everage.

Stace,
At least you can avachat about soccer (football to you) on here, unlike on that other forum.;) We just enjoy the Ozzies doing well with many of us probably not being expert on the round ball game.
And I notice you had a good bet as well. :p Congratulations on your win.
I only watched most of the second half of the game, and have seen some of the other highlights, and, apart from the toughness of the game, and the skills displayed, can only observe that the ref was asleep. I saw some attrocious decisions, and missed infingements, but at least they went both ways.
