When FITA World Target Championships consisted of a double FITA round, FITA maintained World Championship Records (the FITA equivalent of Archery Australia National Championship Records). These covered the range scores for each range of the double FITA and the score for the double FITA (but not the score for individual ranges or the individual FITA. Having looked into this, Australians have indeed held some of them.
In the WAC65: Hans Wright shot the highest 70M range score at a WAC to that time with 299 and won the 50M double with 586 (but the record stood at 598 from WAC63, so no record. Hans tells me that in the other 70M range he broke an arrow rest (one of the old Hoyt plastic and leather types, with which archers of my vintage would be familiar).
In WAC69: Graeme Telford shot both the highest 50M range with 310, and the highest 50M double with 615. The 615 was the new World Championship 50M record.
In WAC81: Marilyn Rumley shot the highest 30M double with 690, and that was a new World Championship Record.
Hence: for Australians there have been two World Championship Records, considering each WAC up to 1983 (after 1983 the results are not so clear, and from 1987 the format changed).
