So there's one at Sydney Uni it seems. What other universities have an archery club?

Sydney Uni has a active club. Twice a week, during the day, week days, no official coach, non strammit targets with 90m range.
Uni of NSW has a club, from what one of their members (who shoots at Sydney Uni every so often) says, they are struggling and may collapse next semester due to funding issues from VSU. They shoot twice a week, one evening, and sundays at Sydney Bowmen, their club has wrap-around foam mounted on a strammit backing on a brick wall indoors (~14-16m range).
University of Newcastle has had a club, whether it still exists I'm not sure of.
Otherwise, there are archers at Uni Technology Sydney, Maquarie Uni, Uni Western Sydney and probably also other uni's.

I think the Uni Newcastle archers, just shoot out of Newcastle Archers now

The Newcastle Uni club is still up and running but they are having funding problems as well. They have approached NCA to shoot at our grounds but it hasn't been sorted yet.

Paul still a member?

Paul is a member at NCA and Pres. of the Uni club. Actually i think he is the whole committee. He's been having trouble getting access to their usual shooting area i think, hence the request to shoot at NCA.
That reminds me, I better sort that out for him.

Is archery performed at any Victorian Uni's?

Used to do it at Monash a while back.
Might be able to start it up again- if VSU allows it.
It's also worth noting; Monash have an elite athlete program. If you get into this program, you get all sorts of support. Things like loads of support if you apply for special consideration, free gym membership (EVERYTHING! the pool, group classes etc...).

Is this true??? It might be a way to justify easier spending so much time in archery...is there a weblink (don't have the time to look myself...really shouldn't be on here at all...)

Do you want a weblink for the Uni archery? or the Elite Athlete thingo?
Elite athlete:
http://www.sport.monash.edu.au/athlete-support.html
Uni archery:
You would just have to set up a club with the uni, and they might not do it on campus, so probably find an archery club somewhere close to shoot at.
I think the Monash archery dudes used to shoot at Waverly.

Thanks - unfortunately it looks to be way outta my league at the moment...but are you gonna apply? I noticed that archery is not as yet represented - could be a good selling point...

Not likely. If you perform well on a state level though, you would certainly have a good chance to get support from most uni scholarship programs, depending on who else is applying.

I am in the program at the moment. I got in for the Commonwealth Cup thingo in India, so it's pretty cool.
I am reasonably sure that you would get in if you make (and you WILL!) the state team for the nats. They seem pretty slack .
Its worth it just for the Gym membership, "Gym + all" membership would have cost $500 for a student.

We'll see - would be good...would have to practice heaps...I sure would like that!! Even without the Monash thingo it would be great to have improved that much ;) Thanks for the encouragement!!

Hi all, I think it's a bit too straight forward for me, but this is my first post and all. =) I'm quite anxious as well. You see, I'm heading to Monash Melbourne to study, and I'm keen to know more about where are the nearest clubs in Victoria. Also, what are the things/paperwork to be done in order to bring in my bow and arrows into Australia. Can anyone help me? thanks!

A smart choice going to Monash :) , as for clubs Waverly is probably the cloest, its about 10 mins down the road from Monash uni. For more info on all the clubs you can go to:

A for what paperwork needs to be filled in to get your bow to Aus, i can't help you.

As far as I am aware, there is no paperwork required to bring in archery equipment to Australia, as if you purchase it from overseas and have it shipped here, there is not restrictions upon it at all (with the exception of crossbows, which require a firearms restricted weapon permit).
If you are still concerned regarding what kind of paperwork you may be able to put together, you should visit the archery australia website and contact the CEO of AA (Jim Larven), www.archery.org.au I think is the site?
If you have a compound and you travel with it, especially on an australian airline, you will also have to declare it as restricted baggage, otherwise they might get a bit narky at you when it goes through the scanner and they see something weird on the x-rays, then pull it from the cargo loading line, and visit you on the plane to ask what is inside, and then have you sign restricted luggage tags before it being re-cargo'd.

andrewf87>>> thankx dude. =D I'll need to look up where my site is first.
flehrad>> hm.....thankx. I've a recurve btw. I know what to do on my side, but I guess, I'll go consult the heads on bringing in my recurve. Definitely, declaring my equipment is mandatory, but I'm just worrying over putting them on board the flight. =D It's fine. Thanks again.

If you have a decent bowcase, you shouldn't be too concerned, especially if it is a hard case. I've travelled around Australia with a SKB compound case (with compound and recurve in it) and besides one of the legs being broken (just a tab of plastic anyway), everything has survived perfectly fine.

As posted by me in the general thread, Newcastle University Archery Club has been accepted as affiliated to ASNSW on 23/2/07.
That is now Sydney, Uni NSW and Newcastle, with my club being based on UWS Campbelltown.
Flehrad, do you have any information on Newcastle?

Not much, they do target on one of the side oval spaces. It has quite a few members, and Kathryn Jankovic has been pretty active in getting things done at the club with the new competition idea.

The University of Newcastle Archers has taken the first step in rebuilding/refurbishing their club. I would like to congratualte the president, Phillip Au, and his members on becoming affiliated with the Archery Society of NSW and hope to see them out at tournaments, or possibly running a tournament very soon. :)
