Well I got one for the rules geeks.

At a recent FITA Star Archer A has no sight settings. So during the practice round he shot 2 ends of 90m.

Then he went over to a spare spot on a ladies target and shot 2 or 3 ends at 70m...........after that over to a spare spot on a juniors target, until Practice was over.

Then he came back to his allocated target and shot the scoring ends. I quized him about that being allowed and he said there's nothing in the rules to say you can't.

Not sure about that one................just wish I had thought of it.

So ladies and gentlemen of the Jury.......is this allowed?????

Provided the DoS has approved this (all practice arrows will be shot under the control of the DoS) and the Judges informed....

can't see why not, unless archers kick up about someone racing around the shooting line causing undue disturbance.

Judges & DOS knew nothing

At our State Short Range Championships last year we managed to convince the judges to let Marcel Verstegan have a practice end half way through the second last distance!!

DoS should have been told..... safety issue here at least.

Vic Short Range is a non-FITA Award event... AA Rules may be more flexible? (I doubt it)

Would question practice arrows being shot 1/2 way through a range, except in exceptional extenuating circumstances

Marcel changed bows (shot my spare one after he cracked a limb) and we convinced the DOS that there was a safety issue if he was not able to have a practice shot. He did not win, as it happens (actually, he never looked like winning that one).

hmmm......Interesting the different rules for different organisations.

After my "equipmet failure" during the IFAA last weekend I was entitled to shoot 3 practice arrows to get it all right.

You're scaring me 2Dogs honey

Do you have equipment failure very often??? Would never have imagined that.

After my equipment failed me last weekend

Well little Annie you just roll up to the Nats and Old 2Dogs will show you a good time  and we'll see just how long it takes for my equipment to fail :o

Mind you, with you being short, bald & pushing 50 I suspect you'll be calling "Equipment failure" long before 2Dogs 8)

I can't see a issue with it. Did it give him an advantage? Did everyone have the ability to do it? Only thing that counts is the 144 arrows scored.

Don't want to be called a rule geek, but this is a very interesting case, and since I have some free time at the moment I took an other look at our international FITA rule book.
The books don't tell a lot about the practice arrows but I found 2 things considering this particular case :
1. Book1 rule 3.19.1.1 : "...The practice targets will be set up at the first distance to be shot by each class..."
2. Book2 rule 7.4.7 : "All practice arrows will be shot under the control of the DoS..."

So I suppose the DoS can decide if it's allowed or not, but you'll probably need his permission (and I don't think you will get it)

Well, without research myself, and having seen some damn dodgey stuff at tournaments, I'd say that unless the DOS has a problem with it then its probably cool.

Like all these things, its up to the other archers to raise a complaint. If they don't, then he/she invariably gets away with it. The moral of the story is -- rather than stand around wondering, ASK THE DOS ABOUT IT!!!!!!!

This way, all problems are decided upon by the "person in charge" after all, even the judges will follow a DOS ruling as far as I am aware.

:agrue:

Oh, and getting a "saftey end" is quite different to a "practise end". At Moorabbin, one bad arrow could cause significant problems with the factory next door.
