View Full Version : Complaining to Admin/Mods
Marcus

The Admin/Mods get more complaints regarding Avatars than just about anything else. In most cases the complaints stem from the complainer either having so sense of humour and missing the point of it or simply because they were ticked at that person and not the actual image.
Other times the complaint is legit.
When we receive a complaint those issuing it must understand that we may not agree with your feelings on it. This usually isn't due to a lacks of morals on our behalf but simply a different point of view.
Users of this forum span many different generations and cultures with different views and feelings on the world. We all handle and perceive things differently. One person's sense of morals and humour will not also blend with someone elses.
If we agree that your reasons are valid then we will take action. If we don't agree then we will not take action, but rather monitor the situation.
If we don't take action then abusing us, threatening us or attempting to mess with our private lives will get you booted from here straight away.
If you don't feel the situation was resolved to your liking, then suck it up and get over it. You can also put the offending user on your Ignore List and no longer view their avatar.

If you have no sense of humour I suggest that you go right now (don't wait another second) to your User CP -> Edit Options and remove the little ticks from "Show Avatars", "Show Signatures" and "Show Images". This should raise your forum experience to the blandness level you are comfortable with.

Mike,
This option is also very handy to dramatically speed up connections for those of us on dial-up at home, and who browse casually at work where the screen is not such a giveaway. I also do not download images at work, to see a photo of someones bow, or someones advertising banner in their tag line, but click on any link if interested.
I look for the content in the posts, and these unfortunately can be very bland from time to time.

i think that moderators/administrators should act as a mediator between 2 forum users, and assist them in reaching some sort of compromise. therefore, it will be fair to the perons in dispute rather than the moderator/administrator (who is biased) arbitrating the situation, which seems to be the status quo.

We're not the United Nations.
Disputes between users will be monitored but can be sorted out by the parties involved. However if the dispute gets to a point where there are threats and abuse (neither of which will be tolerated) then most of the time, depending on the situation, both parties will be banned from the forum and can continue their dispute elsewhere.

I reckon it should be Govt controlled (this forum) then that way we all have someone else to blame when we don't like something very muchly.
Now doesn't this make sense......?

Word.
Maybe there could be an option where you could remove a tick for "Show Posts". This will dramatically reduce the amount of material that people with no sense of humour could become offended by.

Decisions are made by the Administrators and Moderators and I support them 99% of the time. If an admin or mod ban someone for example I won't automatically reverse the decision, otherwise there would be no point in getting admin help.

its a private forum, not a democracy
I always understood that anything on the internet that is open to the world in definitely NOT a private forum. It is openly viewed possibly by millions if they wished.
It would be nice for Marcus if they did.
Control, who needs control....?
I'll think you'll find they mean a privatelly owned forum...not private as in secret...

What StevenB means is that it's a privetly owned forum open to registered users and does not operate under the guise of a democracy. Users should consider the usage of this a privledge and not a right.
With that said we try to be as accomodating as possible and welcome everyone and try to let everyone be themselves.
The irony is that the ones who complain the most and then whinge about the rights of others are the ones usually trying to force their views of the world on other people.
Once again, this is not everyone who complains, just a selet few (who were toasted long ago).
