View Full Version : New Tricks banned...?

Glenn Ryan

I heard this rumour that he was banned...is this true and if so, why????

StevenB
27-07-2006, 07:53 PM
yes he is it seems

Glenn Ryan
27-07-2006, 07:54 PM
Ok, that's the first part of the question answered. The second part - why?

Marcus
27-07-2006, 07:56 PM
NT was in a dispute with another admin and wouldn't drop it. The administrator suspended him for 2 weeks. He will be allowed back on soon I would think.

Glenn Ryan
27-07-2006, 08:43 PM
If he was in dispute with another Admin (admin's should be above all things else they shouldn't be an admin and should not respond to personal issues with a personal response), that's between the 2 - nothing to do with the board, ergo should not be banned.........

wareagle
27-07-2006, 08:43 PM
His names not on the list ?

Glenn Ryan
27-07-2006, 08:44 PM
Also, it still leaves the second part begging...why?????

Marcus
27-07-2006, 08:52 PM
Why are admin the only ones suppose to be above argueing with others when admin are the ones attacked the most?
The administrator told him to drop it, he didn't, he was suspended.
We have suspended people before for getting into disputes with other members and not dropping it, it isn't being a double standard.

The issue is between NT and that administrator. I won't be giving details, as I don't in other similar situations.

Also, it still leaves the second part begging...why?????

I think they got sick of the head banging girls he used as his avatar. :D

And you did have a point earlier. If it was personal and not something of a publicly offensive nature, then it wouldn't be fair, would it?

Then again, it's also their prerogative and Tricksie would just have to grin and bear it. :(

NT is gooooooooooone!

For now...

Glenn Ryan
27-07-2006, 08:59 PM
Marcus, I wouldn't expect you too either (ethics) - the question was towards the Admin in question.

However, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to deduce the following:

1. Admin - CMB50
2. Animosity started with the "un-sportsman like" comment in relation to the field walkup thread as far as memory serves.
3. Assuming the above, it proves the point...someone who knows tell me I'm wrong..............

Marcus
27-07-2006, 09:00 PM
The ban list is at the bottom of this page
http://www.archery-forum.com/showgroups.php

it's also their prerogative and Tricksie would just have to grin and bear it.
No it was the perogative of that administrator and the rest of the admin team support his decision.

Some people may not think it's fair, but mess with admin and that's the risk you take. It's like driving around with a sticker on your car saying 'Cops are Pigs' and then complaining if they pick on you.

We still ban less people than most forums and regular contributors get plenty of warnings.

The rules are there for a reason, this forum is a privilege and it can be taken away if the rules aren't followed. Just deal with it and get on, it's not like they're asking much of you. I think before anyone argues with them, they should step back and have a look at what the admins HAVE done for you. If you continue to argue, you deserve to be slapped with a big fish...

NV, when you grow up and learn correct grammar, punctuation, sentence contruction techniques and provide intelligent discourse, by all means, converse with us - until then shhhhhh - the adults are talking.

but mess with admin and that's the risk you take

Dictatorial to say the least. I fervently hope no admin here owns a bookstore, otherwise, we will see a repeat of the 1930's and 40's and the book burning nazis. Also this reflects on what I said earlier - if it's personal, then admin people should ignore it as part of their professional ethics.

It's like driving around with a sticker on your car saying 'Cops are Pigs' and then complaining if they pick on you

Totally different - the law is on the car drivers side as he hasn't broken the law - it's a point of view. It may not be agreed with, but....

Hypothetically, let's say I was Dave Cousins and had a major personal issue with an admin on this forum...would you ban me taking into consideration the information I could impart onto the forum.....begs the question doesn't it?

I HATE to break in on an 'adult' conversation (personally I feel that NV's contribution was accurate...) but honestly, do you really believe that anyone in this day and age has ethics? Have you not been reading/watching the news recently? Besides ethics are a matter of opinion and as such are not objective but completely subjective...bringing them into a matter like this is irrelevant and unnecessary...and with a little luck we will have MORE BIG FISH!!!

Somebody has to take the moral highground because none around here seem capable of it.

Morals and ethics are different, and to take moral high ground would presume that morals were present. As it stands you can't even take the ethical high-ground because ethics are irrelevant. As Progen has so eloquently said on a number of occasions it is entirely up to the admins at to what they do and don't allow to be said and what they do and don't tolerate. Hell ethics do not even come into the UN anymore...because no-one listens! This is the admins' playground...you decide you want to join, you join by their rules.

As to whether or not I was serious, yes I was entirely. I have read this thread from the beginning and in my opinion you have gotten about as much info as you are going to and any more would only be up to whether the admin involved decided to divulge that info...but here's one for ya...wouldn't telling stories about others' misfortune (in this case NT's) be unethical??? I ask again, why does it matter?

I heard this rumour that he was banned...is this true and if so, why????

Glenn,

NT was not banned. He was suspended from the forum for two weeks.

He was suspended from the forum due to an issue he had with an admin.

If that issue remained private - in PM's I doubt he would have been suspended.

But, it didn't stay private. NT kept on bringing it up, and up again in public threads, and despite being asked to drop it, he persisted.

As a result he was suspended in the hope that he'll drop it when he gets back.

That's the way it was.

Now you know, I hope you can get over it.

...and if Dave Cousins did the same thing, as per your hypothetical, the same action would be taken.

Hey, practise makes perfect right?
Start small, pick on kids from a pre-school and work your way up.
I now pick on 14 year olds, hoping to start on 16-18 yeear old's soon. (plenty of bad moustache jokes lined up)

In this thread thus far, he has one fan.

In fact, the amount of messages the Admins received congratulating us on the suspension of NT was inundating.

Where will i get my daily quota of "rad" from ?

I used to rely on some of his radness to rub off on me just by reading his posts !

Without new tricks around, im afraid i may become "un-rad" and wither and die.

Who is the second most "rad" person on this forum ?

This is probably a dumb question but I am practising to be blonde. If someone is suspended can they still read posts?

And I'm woman enough to admit that I miss NT and am looking forward to him being back. :)

Of course they can read posts. I have no idea no idea whether a suspended user can read posts although I know that he doesn't appear in the Members List but he can simply not log in and read as a guest, can't he? Or perhaps do it at Glenn's place. :D

Wow, I don't log on for a coupla days and see what I miss.....nothing.
I think the question of forum ethics is important, and I propose a Ethics sub-committee be established to set the ground rules for such a thing.
I will appoint Mike13 as chair with CMB50 and 2Dogs as committee members and possibly bring andrewc in as an outside consultant.
I accept.

Wow, you go away for a few days and look what you miss out on! :o

NewTricks knows why he was suspended and it'll stay that way, I've got no reason, will or obligation to raise it publicly despite what some people may wish.

I was on the Gold Coast the last three days, should have called in for a beer. :beer_drink:
