~53# 27" Bowtech Allegiance gets me about 275 fps with a 338gr X10.

Mathews outback @ 60# with 340 odd grain is 280 to 305( depending on type of arrow and Martin cougar 3 is spitting out well over 300 FPS at 70#.

I think the quickest bows arround would be Bowtech Alliegance and Mathews Black max 2 that quote 320 to 330 feet per second.

I have a really heavy longbow( 150# @ 28") that really moves but dont think it is as quick as the top two as the string decelerates rather than accellerates like compounds, but it loves to modify arrows( thats the archers fault more than the bows though):-D

The ACE is pretty light so it is probably correct.

My Allegiance does 298fps with a 290gr CXL and 265fps with a 370gr Navigator

I had 236fps the last time I shot my ACE's for 3D; given the results it wasn't fast enough though, it'll be doing more this year...

Since you didn't answer the question, i might as well. You shoot arrows through a thing called a chronograph. These things measure your arrow speed. An example can be found: http://www.altservices.biz/cgi-bin/htmlos.cgi/00470.7.4170610360739306774

I dunno, maybe slow. Should ask the arrows, maybe? can't go too fast with those little fellas, penetration into the target hurts them and the faster it enters the more friction, doubt they like to get burned...no complains yet so pretty slow i guess.

Is it better to have a really fast bow or a resonably fast bow?

James Park
01-11-2006, 05:45 PM
I would like a really accurate bow that is acceptably fast (to minimize wind drift).
I very definitely don't want a fast bow that is difficult to shoot accurately.
(Currently using 245 ft/sec with 424 grain arrows, and a really accurate bow that is easy to shoot well).

grim_reaper
01-11-2006, 09:41 PM
Im no pro, so correct me if im wrong, but...
Fast Bow = Flatter Trajectory (Arc of Arrow path)
Flatter Trajectory = Less Sight Movment Between Distances
Less Sight Movement = More Accurate shot
Aswell as this^^^ if your arrow is faster it spends less time in the air... and is then in turn, not as prone to the wind.

the only problem with having an ultra fast bow is that they can sometimes be hard to controle, like Mr Parks stated above : "I would like a really accurate bow that is acceptably fast (to minimize wind drift).
I very definitely don't want a fast bow that is difficult to shoot accurately."... if you flinch, its all over red rover... so like all archery, it is very much an individual thing, if you can hit the middle of the target from 50 yards with a bow spitting 150ft/s, whos to say you should change?

Not true, it is much more complicated than that.

If your arrow is light and fast, it will be in the air for less time - that is true, but will still get the crap blown out of it by a heavy wind ;)

What you want (for marked target), is a heavy and thin arrow coming out of a sufficiently fast bow to minimise the effects of wind drift, but not a bow that is so radical that it becomes difficult to shoot. I think the most (of course there are other factors) important thing that makes a bow either easy or difficult to shoot accurately is the brace height. I like to have a bow with a brace height longer than 7" - preferably closer to 7 1/2". This figure will be dependant on your draw length. My Draw length is around 28 1/8". Shorter draw lengths can get away with shorter brace heights.

i do beleive this forum is about oppinions, ideas and experiances, is it not? and if i knew the knowledge was incorrect, do you honestly think i would post it here? and don't say yeah your probably dumb enough, because im not and im sick of hearing it from you, its not hard to get along. I don't have any problems with anyone elese here on the forum and i can't see why i should, i respect everyone that respects me, i take advice and i accept correction, but what you deal to me every post i make is pointless... get over yourself.
