Just a note to advise that K-Mart have a metal detector on special at the moment for $89.00. It runs off 2 x 9v batteries and seems to be good value.

I bought one of the units for our club today, to replace our 15 year + old unit which was held together by gaffer tape, and the boys immediately went to play with it and found 6 arrows in half an hour behind our target butts, several appear to have been there for over two years.

It is advertised as picking up to a depth of 200mm, and that seems about right on tests I conducted on an ali shaft. It also picked up metal points of carbon shafts within 100mm.

While it would most certainly not be the best metal detector around, it is certainly good value for money IMO.

Frommy - do you think it would pick up points lodged in strammit??

No reason why it shouldn't since it was about to detect metal points from within 10cm.

ps. Glue them well, seek them not. ;) Only point I've ever lost in shooting was during bareshaft testing and it got lodged in the stand itself. Couldn't get it out without ruining the shaft and I was very glad I didn't glue that point in too well. :D Two of us managed to pull the shaft out.

Stringwalker,

I think it probably would. We do not use dammit and it would not pick up heads in our cardboard butts because they are too thick therefore the heads get left buried quite deep. But in a normal thickness dammit board it should work. Probably wouldn't on slabbed dammit boards, that is boards layered horizontally, where the shaft would get a deeper penetration.

Another two shafts found at the club today.

I wonder is it could find a release aid. One of our club members threw his after a less than desirable shot on our field course. That was two months ago, and it aint been found yet!!!!
