View Full Version : String and cable twists
I'm doing my saturday arvo fiddle with the bow and I notice the twists are all over the place. Can anyone tell me roughly how many twists I'm supposed to have for the cables and string? I've tried the company website but they don't have it and as I bought the bow second-hand I don't have and instructions. I've also tried a search on this forum but it appears nobody else has been curious about this.
The bow is a Merlin MAX2000 with the regular stuff (not shoot through).
Thanks

I think that the number of twists is not critical. However:
- There should be some twists to ensure that the string and cables remain round.
- Some twists are required to ensure that each strand of the string takes an equal load, especially where the string passes around sharp bends.
- Some twists are required where cables pass over the cable guard to ensure that wear is shared out amongst the strands.
Hence: I would generally aim at having around 20 twists in strings and cables, but I would quite happily accept 10 or 40.
Thank you James
I'm glad you didn't take the "Blue Wiggle" remark to heart! I had read elsewhere that up to a max of 40 twists was okay in the string and 15 went a long way towards fixing my drawlength problem. When I got the bow it had about 2 twists in the string.
The cam timing still looks good so I'll give it a tug tomorrow and see what happens.
Thanks again
Vic
