I took it up as a junior because my Dad would not let me have a gun, and I lived a block away from the archery club

Might as well answer the thread: Always wanted to. Off work for a while (but still employed by them) and needed to get off my fat (sad but true) arse and do something.

I saw a special on archery on TV before the 1982 commonwealth games and decided that it looked like something I could do. The special was basically about Mike Cohen but that had nothing to do with it !

My Dad use to shoot when I ws born and shot in the 76 Olympics, so I grew up knowing about archery.
When I was 12 we went into Archery Academy and I knew right then that I wanted to shoot compounds from that point on.

Cant remember exactly what made me think about it but one day I said to the missis I wouldnt mind trying Archery and she said she did it at school and she really enjoyed it. So we found our closet club and weve both been shooting since. 2 and a half years now. But I wish I had of started it when I was younger!
i tried it in a camp 3 years ago and it took me the rest of that year to finally take up archery (i was to lazy back then to go to a phone book:)) and tried th real thing and loved it and now i have been shooting for 1 1/2 years and love every second of it!!!

one day a indoor archery centre opened up in Tville and was the best looking place to do archery, always wanted to do it since i was a lil' tyke, and like most of us had a go and never left... since then i have moved on form paying $20 for 45mins, and joined a real club, and the rest is history.

2 years ago I asked to my father if i can try archery he said aherm... and it ended on that lol 4 months later i reasked to him and finally accepted I tryed...
and I got the need for archery really soon... and 2 or 3 months later I told my father to try and... he got caught in all this ! lol
Started as a child and picked it up again just after University because I wanted revenge on the local deer population, which I had reduced by one with a pristine vintage Dodge Charger (think of a larger version of a Jensen Interceptor Mk.2 for those of you down under) at 60 miles/hour early one morning.
Spent my first "real job" pay check on a bow.
Never did get around to actually bowhunting though ;)

I only did it 'cause my husband begged me to do it with him. He had done it briefly about 10 years prior and for some reason thought it would be cool to re-start. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised at how enjoyable it really was ... and it really helped that those at the club were really great people (not to mention helpful!!).

I took up archery because it looked like great fun although expensive still I liked it archery is one of those thing's where you don't pick it up really quick but once you have picked it up it was all worth it.

From about when I could stand up I made bows from branches and string. Then I saw a TV program of an archer in England shooting and simply had to have a go at proper equipment. About that time Oakleigh City Archers started and I joined up as one of the early members at the end of 1960 (I was 10). So I could pay for my bow the Bow Hut offered me a Saturday morning job (I worked there on Saturdays until I was 21).

Always liked the idea of archery and thought it looked more challenging than shooting .Started at Moorabin in 96 then took it back up two years ago and love every minute I shoot.I find it relaxing and being out in the fresh air is great we are spoilt at Sherbrooke

One of my girls was doing it, getting to the indoor venue with a male friend. So people wouldn't start talking about him taking out this 15 year old girl, I went along as well. Got told I couldn't watch - had to do it & have been hooked ever since. The daughter who got me started didn't stick with it, but the 3 younger girls now shoot & they love it!
Also gets me out of the house away from a hubby who only shoots in Internet war games. Gotta love those 2 day 3D shoots! 8-)

I use to help out dad in the shed before i was old enough to go to school and one day found myself looking into the heart of the don't touch cupboard where dad kept his 4 compounds that hadn't been used in years and quivers arrows and many many awards. But becuase i lived in town and dad didn't know any archery clubs close by i just mucked around in the yard trying to make bows out of bit of wood and rubber bands and shoot a saw dust bag. Than in year six one of mums freinds sold there hundred acre fantasy land to us so they could move to shepperton. So me and my brother the first day we moved there set about making a range it took us a couple of mounths to complete to remove rocks and seive the dirt of little rocks. but by the time we where done i had allready shot my first real bow a 30# recurve at the year seven camp. Than when i returned dad handed me the lowest pound bow he had a 35 pound polar bear 2 which was pretty hard to draw. then i moved to the browning deluxe nomad set at 45# within weeks. I mucked around abit walking the hills in search of goats with my older brother we sucked alot then i purchased my first bow last year a fred bear little delta but the draw lenght soon was to short. and sold it about a month ago and purchased My samick talon 45# which is my pride and glory and took the first ozcrest game with it and my first trad goats on the same hit 2 for one doesn't get much better than that. So thats the story of how i was born again.

got bored one day and thought might as well do something cool. Since i always wanted to shot with guns and projectiles the closest thing to it was a bow so i tried it at school and just got hooked.
I was wanting to do some kind of sport, but i couldn't be bothered doing something so commen and reguler like soccer or basketball so i decieded to try out archery.

Had always hunted with rifles until one day, I went to the dump (yes, the DUMP) and found an old recurve. I got a new string for it and some arrows, set up a target in the paddock and away I went. I enjoyed the challenge, so after a while I upgraded my gear. Still have the dump special though:thumb:

Had a go at a county fair and enjoyed. My first ever 3 arrows were all golds. Think they were 10 9 9. I was only about 8. My nan was at church one sunday and overheard her friends talking about their archery club. Booked me in for the begginers/Training course. The rest is history! Numerous medals, 3 years on Junior International team. 1999 Indoor Junior Champ. Handfull of national records and even a eurpoean Medal. Tried to stay away from the sport but got dragged back in. Love the sport more than ever. All I think about at work is how long I have before I can go shooting. I like to keep my archery interesting. Shoot barebow every once in a while with my origonal wooden takedown bow that I started shooting with 12 years ago.:thumb:
