Yesterday I had a problem with releasing....:(

Had shot morning league 72 arrows plus practise ends without a problem, then was shooting a Perth in the arvo and just one arrow....Full draw...Aimed at the X held nicely (for a change) and just couldn't let it go....Couldn't even let it down....Froze on the spot....In my mind I was telling myself to do one or the other, but nothing happened for about 15 seconds....Once I did let it go, it was a bad shot, and I was stunned by what had just happened.....Shot the rest of the afternoon without a problem but just couldn't beleive what had happened...

Has anyone else had this happen, or does anyone have any explination for it???

it happens, some people might go through an entire day having bad shots, i think the best thing is to keep on shooting, keep positive. That days score might be rotten, oh well, you've plenty of other scores to shoot, least you that if that sort of problem occurs in a tournament, you can hold yourself together and fix yourself up.

Much better than spitting the dummy and throwing your bow on the ground, cheaper too ;)

This is one reason why it is very very important that you don't press the trigger on purpose but slowly squeeze the trigger in a fluid motion.
It is very very important that you squeeze the shot and wait for it to fire, otherwise mental blocks like this will occur.
There are a few other issues that will also occur down the track as well that will be even more unpleasent.

a kid at one of the NQ comps froze up once, and couldnt do anything, one of our experienced coaches went to him and talked him through it, he then told the kid 'everytime you pull back that bow say to yourself I FEEL THE NEED FOR SPEED'... two ends later we hear a yell " I FEEL THE NEED FOR SPEED" across the shooting line, .. needless to say we all craked up laughing.

If it's nothing serious, it can usually be resolved by letting down, taking a few breaths, looking around a bit and going through the entire sequence again. Can also sometimes be caused by a change in form. The human body is able to recognize minute changes in repetitional actions and something different in the sequence might cause that mental block.

Needless to say this kind of thing sucks, but it is mostly in your head but like marcus said, that's the reason why people squeeze until it fire and then things should be fine.

Yeh down the track the problems can definatly get a lot nastier as marcus said like not even being able to aim on the gold.
