It might get really useful instead of re-instaling an older msn version...
thx !

So you've just replaced one DNS problem with another...

This is not a good idea...what you'll end up with is a bunch of people with static resolutions in their host files. They'll all complain and wonder why msn doesn't work when the server changes ip address.....

...the real problem is, of course that you're using msn

Agreed. The following might work better in hosts then:
127.0.0.1 passport.com
;-)

You'd edit /etc/hosts or whatever it is under OS X and then run `niload -m hosts < /etc/hosts` (or similar) as root to reload the NetInfoManager. Google.

That seems complex... mine seems to take effect immediately. I would have thought that OSX might be similar, but who knows...

I've had all of three minutes exposure to OS X. Proprietary System V systems all seem to run their own caching daemons, which sometimes lag behind the flat files in /etc.

I have a much better solution, go back to ICQ or even better use google chat and gmail, unless you like all the porn emails you get

haha. well, all the people in my country were having all these problems and i found this and it seemed to work. but anyway, i suppose since it's all right now, shouldn't be a problem :)

anyway, i didn't really know exactly what that thing does, but i suppose if there are any problems we could just go back to hosts and just delete the last two lines.

still, msn's up again. honestly speaking i don't appreciate the caprice of MSN. though it's a pity cuz all my friends are using msn. i don't have a choice. either i persuade all of them to use some other equivalent messenger service, or i use it with them myself. the latter is a whole lot easier :)

still, cheers to those who offered technical expertise on this.
