Assuming you're using Windows and the mighty tools that come with it:
Press Print Screen*
Open Paint
Paste
*it should be up the top right of your keyboard somewhere. Might be labelled "prnt scrn" or something - don't laugh, I really have had someone not find it because of that...

I think that's unlikely, he's always so polite to people on this Forum.:)

Pressing [ALT]+[PrtScn] will capture the active window, and put it's contents in the clipboard.
Then, (Assuming you're using Windows XP) you go to Start, All Programs, Accessories, Paint.
Once paint has opened up you go Edit, Paste.
Then you can resize it, crop it etc and save it.
For posting on the web, best to save it as a .jpg, or a .gif
Cheers,

Yeah, that's right. Pressing Prt Scr is enough. I used to do Shift Prt Scr. Did the trick as well. Eberbachl's Alt Prt Scr has the same result but why bother with an extra keypress?

Because then you dont have to crop out the start bar, or any other windows you had open. makes it easier in the long run.

Yeah, that'd be useful if you happen to be on some shameful sites. Like 'Chuck Norris is great and so is David Hasselholf'. :D
Heard Hoffie's new song yet? Jump in my car indeed. :fist:

...no, it is not the same.
Simply pressing [PrtScn] will capture the entire screen, including desktop, start menu, taskbar, and any open windows etc.
Pressing [Alt]+[PrtScn] will only capture the active window.

I hate paint.
I agree that Paint is limited, but I described the steps using Paint, because it's built into Windows, and not everyone will have third party imaging apps like Photoshop etc...

Oh ok, didn't notice that because I always crop anyway.
As for Paint and Photoshop, they both cost the same to me. ;) :behindsofa:

Nothing wrong with Paint for pasting a screenshot into. Loads a bit quicker than Photoshop too - that's quite sledgehammer and peanut for a screenshot...
I didn't know the alt+print screen thing though - thanks, although I'm not sure when I'll actually use it :-)

Indeed, Paint does work perfectly well for pasting, cropping and posting a quick screenshot.

The GIMP is superior - it has a better mascot than any of the others.
