I've heard nothing of a selection shoot or even information this was on, so I doubt Australia is sending a team. It's a shame.

Official practice will start today. Sad no Australians are there. Any predictions?

According to GT, Air France lost all Cousins' equipment apart from his release device. He still scored 592 and came 5th with borrowed gear!!
Why is it that no Australian even had a chance to go, even if they paid their own way?

If it were a World Clout team we would have sent a fully funded squad.
For some reason Indoor is still a fringe aspect in this country.

Some one "wise" must have assumed no Australians would be interested. Would be nice if we were asked first.

I notice that DC was eliminated by a Matthews shooter (using a single cam, of course).
Hey Jim, where did you find the results of the elimination rounds, because they're not yet on the official site.

I notice that the high score for mens compound (inner 10) for 30 arrows was 299.
There is not a lot you can do about that kind of scoring.
I also noticed that the 1/4 finals of the men compound most have been very exciting, 3 of them needed a shoot-off (BTW one of them at a score 119 each).

I read some where that he had to use borrowed gear, his got lost in transit or something.

Morgan Lungdin was knocked out in the finals by Reo Wilde who is now the winner. Martin Scepter 3 with dual cams wins the worlds.

I watched Morgan Lundin at the World Field in 1998. He did not win, but on an impossibly vertical course he shot a perfect score. Leigh Cornish and I though it was just about the most difficult course we had ever seen (although Cortina in 2000 was worse).

For those who have never seen Morgan Lundin. This is from the World Field 2000, Cortina, Italy. He is the one closest to the camera. The third archer from the end is Dave Cousins. This was practice for the finals, and I was by this time a spectator (although I shot the unmarked round with Dejan Sitar and managed to beat him).

Just looking at their stance, both Morgan and Dave have their feet very close together. :-?
James Park
10-03-2003, 05:08 AM
Yes, I think their feet are too close, but you need to remember that the course was extremely steep (far, far steeper than anything I have ever seen in Australia) and on many of the shots it was the only way to get a viable stance at the shooting positions. You can see from Morgan's followthrough that he pulls very hard into the wall (as does Dave - his followthrough is similar). Note that Dave's bowarm is straight as with virtually all of the top archers - Morgan's bowarm is bent, which I don't like, and he was the only one like that. Note that Morgan's bowarm has moved left and down following release, as we want, showing he gets a surprise release.

Jim I have noticed a few archers with a similar stance and some of them shoot very good.
They must be gifted with very good balance. I still sway around with a wider stance..:D

I happend to be there as a spectator. I was kinda dissapointed no Australians were present...
BTW: Dave Cousins' bows were recovered before the qual. rounds, so he shot with his own bows.

Jim, Why do you think Morgan does so well with the bent arm? Doesn't seem to be much of a handicap to him.

Steve,
Yes, his style is unorthadox but he scores very well. It is apparent to me that he pulls hard into the wall and I think this helps him get away with it to some extent, however the orientation of his bowarm would make it difficult for him to get an optimum shoulder alignment. He is also risking tendonitis in his left elbow from using the bent arm. Other than that, I think he is just plain good. It is not a technique I would recommend.

Ahh boys you see Martin wins another one :D
Some dam fine scores shot at this shoot.
Maybe if someone asked the CEO of Archery Australia why no Aussies went we may get an answer.
But then again his attitude towards "Archery- Forum" is that we are an irresponsible bunch and it's probably "20min of his life he may not get back"
Pity......his loss I guess
