Ok, Apple fans, close your eyes and let this slide but has anyone tried Windows Vista RC1 yet? I'm close to completing the 3.59GB download now so I thought I'd try it on my spare PC. Any good? Seems like it's about 6 times the size of the previous Windows XP Professional installation.

Running on Vista RC2 just rigth now.... true it does so look like some mac's of my friends  :silly: , and apparently Linux too (but didn't tried that one yet..)

Nothing really wrong with it so far... just pain in the ass to get drivers, etc... and few bugs with some of my programs (Rhino 3D for example)

I ran it.... liked it, but.

The drivers for my NIC had bugs and I couldn't surf certain sites. tried all the fixes and nothing worked.

So I zapped back to XP.

I will be getting it when it comes out.

Yep, have tried every release of Vista/Longhorn just about.

That's the fun of a Tech Net Plus subscription.

I'm not really bothering with it yet though.....

Mainly what kind of hardware did you have problems finding drivers for?

That PC I'm going to experiment with is my DJ machine, running PCDJ FX VRM and FinalScratch. I can't afford to have those hang in the middle of a set because I've given up totally on audio CDs.

...so stick with XP, until a stable public release of Vista is available with adequate hardware support.

Was hoping to get away with things the same way I got away with upgrading to XP Professional from ME and nothing went wrong. :D

Ah ha! Creative. I just LOVE those people. Anyone had this problem where you can't find drivers for the lower end SoundBlaster Live 5.1s on Creative's website just because they kept coming up with new revisions of what's essentially the same board and different countries have different revisions too?

I almost had to get two new ones for my DJ PC after a format. Good thing I came across this smart aleck's website where he managed to merge drivers from a few revisions into one consolidated driver and my revision (SB0220) was one of them. :thumb:

Installed it. Worked fine until I realized that my motherboard's SM bus drivers didn't work with Vista and neither did my DJ software because I did the smartarsed thing and downloaded the 64 bit version.

Boy, I just got this dual core 3.46 GHz CPU 2 months back with a motherboard to match. ;)

Next upgrade should be a quad core but that's near end of next year when the prices have dropped.

Clearly you needed to wait for core 2 duos if you had plans to use 64bit vista.

(I wonder how my 2ghz celeron would deal with vista?)

It's not the processor. Just that PCDJ FX will not run on a 64bit operating system. Was  at first until I checked the user forum. It's ok. Back to XP Profession although I'm downloading the 32bit version of Vista right now. Have 2 PCs so can afford one for experiments.

it would run it ok but not the best i got a friend tat is doing that right now... i have not really had any problems with getting drivers to work but i did notice that with vista i did not need a driver for my keyboard and it runs fin with all the hot keys and that. only problem that i have found is that fire fox does not like the vista areo theme so vista being as good as it is changes it self to the basic theme while i have fire fox open and then back when i am finished in fire fox..

That's weird, Firefox doesn't complain at all about 3D acceleration in OSX or Linux. Maybe MS are just being difficult...
