:o March which year?

The August 2006 AA Board minutes state:
18 General
d. Australian Archer
We're having little interest in the publication of this magazine so it was agreed that it would be suspended.

I hope this is the first of many and I think I'll contribute to future editions... If I can think of good worthwhile material to write about.

I think it is great.

The editor looks familiar somehow!!!

The front cover says March 2006 and most of the info is from the 2006 junior Nationals. There is a Feb 2006 ranking list and a date of Jan 2005 on the bottom of each page. Most things in the table of contents are on different pages to what is listed.

It is things like this that make Archery Australia look unprofessional.

Jason,

From my perspective as Sec/Treas for Camden, one of the problems is that the AA database of members is updated from RGB records. These, of course, are only as good as the advice provided by the constituent clubs.

So when everyone floods me in July with renewals, by handing over the $'s, I regret that I do not check on member contact details like I should do. Maybe the same thing happens in your club seeing you have undergone so much trauma with locating a new home for the club.

With so much reliance on email contact these days, often the simple things, like mailing address, could be overlooked.

With AA now sending out the ASNSW membership cards, got mine two weeks ago, after renewing in July  any potential change of address details may need to be looked at seriously by club officials.

Not that I am saying that you may have changed address, because I would not know that, and maybe Marcus is correct, but you have triggered a thought in my mind that I now need to more closely than ever look to ensuring contact details are updated from members of my club.

Regards,

Brian

Mistakes happen, it is volunteer afterall.

I think the issue is that in the day of the internet magazines of all kinds suffer because by the time they are amassed and printed the info is out of date.
The people doing it put in alot of work but without people willing to contribute to it they were having to find all the info and articles themselves.

While I was typing the previous, you also posted.

I saw that issue many months ago, but no longer have it due to a SWMBO clean-up.

The footer error of the date is a very easy one to make, and I have seen it many times, even on government documents.

You are correct and this is often the case, but not this time. I have lived an this address for 3 years, and both mine and my flatmates arrived together today.

You're lucky. SA only sends in affiliations quarterly so I've yet to see my AA card having paid up the fees in June!

The typo's are minor things, and without volunteers, archery in this country just wouldn't exist. I guess is the comination of an 8 month old magazine with a number of errors that got to me a bit.

Now i am confused....

Why are they posting it out now when the bloody thng has been axed.....

I would have thought the postage would have cost them heaps.

Why generate interest if they are going to forget about it.

Oh well. I thought it was good and was hoping they would get it t0ogether to do more

Hey, at least you've GOT a magazine. Many of us are still living in last years news.

Magazines with constantly updated things like ranking lists, results and reports are a thing of the past.

AA should setup a blog type website, appoint someone to run it (and consequently update it) and we'd have an instant online magazine with all current results, tournament reports, photo's etc, etc, etc....

i think it would work with people willing to contribute.

Cam,

I think you will find that is the intention of AA if you read point 18(d) of the minutes of the August AA meeting. This is the link:

While i like AA's work, I'd sooner sit down and extract my toe nails with chop sticks than read minutes from board (bored) meetings.....but thanks anyway.

It is a long document, Cam, but a short section on page 9. It would be easier to be able to copy and paste, but Adobe will not allow that that I can find.

Not to say that it will happen though!

alright....the toe nails have been extracted and i had a look at the minutes:

"It was agreed the Archery Australia Inc website as well as email to RGB's would become the focus of communications with members. "

What?! No!

Let's face it, the AA website is slow and horrible to navigate, but it has all the information on it that it needs to have on it. Let's not go and slow it further.
Create a seperate website, designed as an on-line magazine (hell, even call the Australian Archer) and keep that type information on it's own website. It'll be much more user-friendly, easier to navigate and information relevant to it's purpose. Make it fun. Make it a website that people want to check back on reguarly.

Sorry Jason for semi hijack of your thread, but if AA are going to run an update and info service through the web site, where TF is any info on the Commonwealth Cup in which many of our archers performed so very well?

AA website is silent on this. :(

Granted, AA didnt say a thing about the commonwealth champs, and didnt tell most members it was on or give enough hype etc... resulting in us sending the smallest team in the competition (even smaller than bangladesh... quite embarassing and dissappointing, imagine how well we could have done).
But, to AA's defence, i really dont think the Indians told anybody anything about the competition, other than where it and when it was on.

dbjac,

I am referring to post event reporting of the fabulous performances of yourself and other team members from the Commonwealth event in India in reference to the thread on providing info to members.

And I agree, I had little info through AA that this event was going to be held, not that I would have been considered in contention for selection. :)

It may have been a small team, but 2 gold medals out of 8 on offer ain't to bad.

I repeat, AF rules for information.

Ah ok, sorry frommy.

Yes, some recognition for all who attended would have been nice. Especially Chris, who knocked out quite a few of the medal favourites.

Item 18 d - Deals with the demises of the "Australian Archer".

Of more interest is item 18 c.

It states that Marcus is getting an invite to the December Board meeting and that he is going to be asked to investigate "... the key issues facing archers ...".

Hmmm.....

Marcus

Don't get too excited.
I believe AA wants to invite a member from each state to give a rundown of what is happening in their areas, someone not a RGB President and who competes etc. What's happening at the coal face so to speak. Also helps get rid of some of the grandstanding I have witnessed at these meetings "our RGB is so fabulous, we have so much money" etc etc.

So at the meeting after that I am sure another state will have someone invited.

Anyone is welcome to PM me with anything they would like reported on.

I still don't have mine, nor my AA mag. My brother who doesn't shoot much at all, renewed his membership and got his card and mag some time ago.

Can't we have email notifications of these things? Email newletter, email confirmation of membership payment (but still pay via club). I mean, it's not as though our membership no. should change all the time. We should only need one card unless you are new or lose your card. It'd be pretty easy to automate much of the admin stuff.
