just like to know if anyone has some tips on shooting recurve without a scope.
i got my gear together but cant afford:( the scope id like to get but still like to shoot. Got some great advice today shooting without a scope and it worked pretty well. I was told to keep three fingers under the nock and pull my fingers to the side of my lip, then focus with the tip of the arrow.
Just like to know if anyone can give some of there experiences and what range could you shoot with this method?

Psss, what you need is a sight, not a scope. There are lots of cheaper sights around which are capable of doing the job just as well. I soldiered on with a Cartel K-sight for a year before getting something else. The K-sight didn't let me down in any way and so far, my only gripe was its weight.

What you have been taught are the first rudiments of barebow shooting. Unfortunately it will only work at one distance - the point-on distance or "point blank range".
By changing the distance between your top drawing finger and the nock you can aim with the point of the arrow very accurately at a variety of ranges; this is called string walking and is the preferred method of most serious barebow archers, both compound and recurve.
Conversely you can keep your grip the same and change your anchor point; this is face walking.
Or you can keep both grip and anchor the same and aim the arrow point at a spot other then the gold; this is point of aim shooting. Gap shooting is similar, but you look at the target and are aware of the point of the arrow in the peripheral vision. Both are commonly used by longbow shooters.

Or you can buy a really cheap sight. Even a pin stuck down with some sticky tape will do if it is set in the right place.

got a K-sight
Doesn't cost much and did a great job
BTW scopes aren't ''fita legal'' for recurve;)

I agree with buying a very cheap sight, you can buy a Cartel Camper for US$18, more info here: http://www.lancasterarchery.com/shop/product_info.php?cPath=39_90_358&products_id=2689

If you realy cant afford it, you can tape a cardboard or thick paper to your riser and make some pencil horizontal markings, when you get the one that works at 18, mark it permanently, then the same for 20 and 30 or whatever fixed distances you shoot. You can also try different horizontal distances from the window of the riser to the end of the cardboard to make for horizontal aiming position.

What I think is better about this options is that you can learn a fixed anchor point beneath your chin and work in more common recurve techniques rather than barebow techniques if thats what you like.

Good luck,

Rafa.

Yea a pin with a foam tape is great, superemely cheap (next to nothing if you have the stuff) the foam tape can be subsituted with those electrical insulation tapes (whatever they are called...)
