Maybe old news but I just saw on the news that they are bringing in Archery
for the 2010 Commonwealth Games. Don't know any details but would certainly lift archery profile!

Compound as well?
Should be, yes.

They were meant to have a meeting on the 15th to decide it for sure; I couldn't find anything saying what they'd decided though. Sounds promising!

Will be interesting to see how this will affect the Government Funding for Archery.

Will Compound finally get a taste of the big chocolate cake, or will they only be left with the small little crumbs they get now.???

If compounds are allowed in, would we all not shoot compound. Will there be any recurvers left.

Who really cares, if you are good enough to qualify for your style does it matter if you shoot recurve or compound. I think not.

Oh, right; people only shoot recurve so they can make the Olympic team.
I understand now.

From Jim Larven today:
__________________________________________________ _______________
Hi All,

Just been advised today by the Australian Commonwealth Games Association of the outcome of the meeting conducted over the weekend in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia by the International Commonwealth Games Association.

Archery has been approved as an event at the 2010 Commonwealth Games to be conducted in Delhi India.

I have no other details at the present time and I am not sure of the events to be conducted or if it will be open to both recurve and compound. I expect to have this information shortly following a meeting with the Australian Commonwealth Games Association planned for the next few weeks following their officials return from Malaysia.

The original motion presented by India was for both disciplines to be included.
This is exciting news for the sport.

Regards

Jim Larven

Games-Tennis and archery included in 2010 Commonwealth Games
Sat Nov 18, 2006 3:26 PM GMT

MUMBAI, India, Nov 18 (Reuters) - Tennis and archery have been added to the list of disciplines for the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, a top Indian sports official said on Saturday.
"The executive board has cleared men's and women's tennis and archery," Randhir Singh, secretary general of the Indian Olympic Association told Reuters.
The Commonwealth Games Federation met in Kuala Lumpur where India also pushed for the addition of billiards and snooker, which were not approved.
The inclusion of tennis and archery increases India's medal prospects after they finished fourth with 22 gold medals in the last Games in Melbourne behind Australia, England and Canada.
