...Though you've probably heard it many, many times before.

I have recently finished the Beginner's course at my local club, having used a club bow for the entirety of the course. And I was wondering if anyone here might be able to point me to a company or specific shop that would be a good place to buy my next bow. I'll take into account the money issue once I've found a place.

Oh, and please bear in mind that I live in Northern England.

ask your coach and people around your club!

otherwise, online shops like alt services (based in UK) will do just fine!

Okay, I will, thanks.

And can you clear something up for me? I always forget whether I use a RH bow or a LH. Is it literally whichever hand you write with, for instance, that is the right way to go? So I write with my right hand, so I should order a RH bow?

If you are a right-handed shooter (not necessarily the same as the hand that you write with), then you will hold the bow with your left hand, and vice-versa.

Don't go to Altservices as they are online only. Fine when you know what you want, but till you do best off visiting a proshop.
Try Bowsports or Quicks

also visit www.archery-interchange.com for a UK based forum.

What Marcus said. You will also find a section within Archery-interchange (AIUK) that has lots of details of dealers in your country so you can find a good one close by maybe.

You will also find the AIUK members to be very helpful, although they do tend to spread around too much beer and cake. :p

Just had an aged moment about this thread. Rather than starting it with a Python intro, perhaps it could have been logged as:

"What's it all about?

Alfie"

:D

Back to serious stuff, I overlooked your message about handedness of a bow. If you do not know that, then you seriously need to talk to members of the club who provided you with the intro course before you even venture to an archery dealer.

Hannah was correct in stating that a RH archer holds the bow in the LH and draws with the RH. Again, talk to members of the club.

Maybe I will see you on AIUK sometime.

My thought is he was just having difficulty with the labling convention ie the only reason I know whether I am right/left handed is because I know what feels 'right', not because someone told me...although that had to happen at some stage also, but not until i was actually buying a bow did I need to know that for sure. Not so sure that it is such a big deal?

Okay, thanks alot, everyone.

I've just registered to AIUK, so I'll probably be there more often, it being a British based forum as you said.

But again, thanks for all the help you've given me. It's really helped.

I might return at some point.

There are a number of people who are members of more than one forum...which is why we can recommend a forum to just about anyone. You can still learn things from both ;)

The nearest shop to you is Custom Built Archery's shop in Guisborough:
http://www.custombuilt.co.uk/

Or you could go to my favourite, Aardvark Archery between Leeds and Bradford:

TJ,

Alfie is now happily posting away on AIUK, and getting good advice from there, as usual.

Thanks Frommy, I realised it just after I'd posted. It was first thing in the morning for me, so none too sharp. :silly:

Hey TJ Mason, do you know the currency on the Aardvark Archery website? is it in pounds or Euro because it doesn't seem to be able to display it.

The prices are in pounds (GBP). It'd be nice if those WERE Euro prices -- that'd be about two thirds of what they actually are.
