885 - wow. Great score, and one of the best ever shot in Australia.
I am looking forward to the PSE Team at the Nationals of PSEBOW, Bryce and me taking all the medals in the Target and drinking Moet and Chandon at the AF dinner (I volunteer to buy the first bottle if we can do it)!!!!! We really should try to have a "Manufacturers Team Matchplay event".

I can't wait for the nationals and I can't wait for the forum dinner. It will be great to meet you all.
we had perfect weather up here today, only a slight breeze this afternoon, just enough to cool us, not enough to affect the shooting.
only another 6 points to go to beat Clints Australian record.
PSE's rule :D

It would be interesting to have a list of the best Canberras shot in Australia. I can claim 881 (but I have not shot one in good weather for years and years). Perhaps we should start calling them FITA 900's (Is that the correct name?).
Jay Bowden

I'm not sure what the difference is between them both. I think it's just a name.
I'm sure if Marcus reads this he will compile a list.
We shoot Canberra's/FITA900's quite regularly at our club, they are easy to shoot and don't take long to complete, I've shot 4 already this month in club competition and 1 more in practice.
Jim,
What sort of shoots do you do regularly? I practice 90mt every week and try and shoot 80cm face@50 mt as often as possible. Generally we only have full size faces up at our club.

"FITA 900 Round" is universal (in the FITA community anyway) - stick with that as a name perhaps? :D
No-one outside Australia would have a clue what a "Canberra" is!! In the Inner 10 days they were different for compounds but no longer are.

Mostly I shoot 70M and 90M practicing for FITA's. When I score it is usually just range scores at those distances and the occassional half FITA.

At our club, we shoot a different round each month for the entire month.(this month happens to be FITA900.)
So I shoot these as well as getting there early to practise 90mt & such.
Next month is FITA field, it will be good practice leading up to the nationals.

Good on you Gossy! well done,
how long have you been shooting?
Marcus
16-03-2003, 06:44 PM
BIG JASON!!!! Ok you can come. The PSE recurve table is yours!
We shoot a FITA 900 every week as part of a league. The last 2 weeks have sucked big time!!! Although Colin shot well yesterday in the wind for a 839

Well you will live where you live
BTW Marcus, I will want to enter these 2 scores from today into the postal shoot, but I can't until we clean up that mess I made in there.
this PSE table sounds like it's going to be the most popular table.

:o
No! Marcus don't fix it! Well if you do, take off 50 points for a penalty!
How's anyone supposed to win the postal fita 900 when your submitting scores like that!
:(
Well Done
Keep shooting like that and we might make a exception and let you sit at the mathews winners table

885....nice shooting. If that was shot in a tournament, I think it is a national record. The 891 I shot was at a club shoot which does not class as a tournament.
We are having a tournament down hobart in 3 weeks time. Day1 will be a FITA 900 and day2 is the 70mtr round(72 arrows). It is a Fita award shoot so world records may be claimed. I am pondering shooting this event as this shooting ground is where I shot the 1409 and 1399

unfortunately the score was only shot at a local club shoot .
I'll just have to do it again in tournament won't I. :D
It would be good to shoot in Tassie with you Clint but it's to close to the nationals, maybe next time. The only official FITA900 we have up here is not for 6 months.

Jay,
Did you shoot with a release or are you the finger shooter I shot with at the indoor?
Bloody impressive either way ,but if you shot that score with your pinky's and a scope that would really make them take note.
Jay Bowden

Bruce, it is me that you shot with at Werribee.
I shot the score using a release aid, after the masters I had to buy new arrows(due to total destruction of previous set in the stramit) so I bought a set that would spine correctly for release aid and switched to it.
only been shooting with the aid for 4 months. still improving everytime I go to a shoot, shooting new PB's once or twice a week.
My best FITA900 with fingers was 863, my best Mens FITA was 1305, I shot these late last year not long before the masters. Still good enough to make people take notice.

Are the classification systems here different than in the UK? As in, over there, an MB score for a FITA is 1190, bowman being 1065 and GMB being something like 1315. How did Gossy to get their MB on 1144? Or is that person a junior?
With regards to Clare's statement about people not knowing what the Canberra round is - throw in the Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney rounds while you are at it! I can't keep them straight. Give me my Windsor, Albion, St. George rounds in yards. I can keep those straight... :)
And just how many people actually shoot a recurve in this country. I've only seen two other people. One of them was a lady and the other didn't shoot... :-? I'm wondering if I will be the only person shooting on the recurve line at the Nationals...

grant,
mens compound archers need to shoot 1298 for GMB, 1230 for MB
recurve shooters i'm not sure on but I think it's 1230 & 1140 ??
There will be quite a few recurve shooters on the line, so you wont be lonely. At a FITA Star shoot there is usually 1/2 dozen mens recurvers,
so at the nationals I would guess about 20 or more.
Clare Barnes

You'll not be the only recurver Grant - at last year's Nats the Men's Recurve section had 37 competitors!!
Go to http://www.archery.org.au/docs/aarule/index.html
and look in Chapter 4 to work out the ratings. From memory Open men recurvers need an 1140 Men's FITA for an MB (75 rating) and 1230 for a GMB (85 rating).
What makes you think anyone outside the UK knows what those weird rounds you mentioned are????

Oh, and don't forget the Hereford, St. Nicholas, New/Long/Standard/Short/Junior/Short Junior Westerns, York, Bristol I-V, American, New/Long/Standard/Short/Junior/Short Junior Nationals, New/Long/Standard/Short/Junior/Short Junior Warwick, Metric, Half Metric, Long Metric and Short Metric I-V, Bray I, Bray II, Portsmouth (the UK standard indoor round), Stafford or Worcester. But like Clare said, they are specific to the UK. Certainly not weird though... :) :) :)

Y'all ask nicely and I'll dig out a page showing distances and arrows shot - bet it's the same as you, only different names.

Ours (Australian ones) are at: http://archery.org.au/docs/aarule/chapter9.pdf
And I have just noticed lots of the round names Shirt and grantwomack mention are listed there too under Unofficial Target Rounds - Historical..

Yes, the Philladelphia is a fun round. We shot it for many years at the Kew Golden Bow tournament in Victoria.
Clare Barnes

The Metric Philadelphia is still shot at an annual tournament in Adelaide. 30 arrows each from 100m, 90m, 80m, 70m, 60m, 50m, 40m........
This year more people shot the "Philly" than the number of archers who shot the first FITA Star and FITA Arrowhead events of the year combined! :o :D
