entry forms, put them up at your club
We are doing some new and interesting things this year
Forget the old award structures where EVERYONE gets a prize.
Our prizes will be based on
Open Compound (men and women mixed)
Open Recurve (men and women mixed)
Under 18 Compound
Under 18 Recurve
Over 50 Compound
Over 50 Recurve
Barebow (all age groups and bow types)
Overall Highest Compound
Overall Highest Recurve
Club Teams
So while all divisions are catered for and shoot their normal rounds, we had merged them for medal purposes creating what we hope is a much more competitive event.
This will mean the event will only cost $20 and includes lunch ('cept for softdrinks)
Also we will have ome mini games merged in including
$50 to whoever shoot closest to a particular score predetermined by us.
$1 Spider Shoot. Pay $1 to be included. First to hit the + in the middle of the target gets the money. Could happen in the first end, or the last end.
People can also PM their entry as well.

No entries from Sherbrooke. Disapointing. :(
Sure is!!!
I think that it has been fairly quiet at the club over the break and a FITA round first week back is a big ask if you haven't been shooting regularly - at least for me anyway.
Obviously I can't speak for the other members.

Quite a few PB's were shot however.

Fantastic day!
Thanks everyone ;)
Very hot...something like 34 today - the shade structure was really great - the sun really had some kick ;) Very little wind about today, so for such good conditions a little surprising not to see some bigger scores.

Thanks Marcus,
I cant really complain about the way I shot today, rusty as hell, a few nerves and no 90,70 or 50 metre sight settings what can I expect.
But seriously I was expecting some BIG scores with the weather we had today.

A custom made 0.25 diopter lens centrally drilled for a long Beiter fibre optic rod, osolates briefly then settles. The sight picture, an 80cm target face thirty metres distant. Recently confirmed Grand Master Bowmen Rob McEwan poises for release. But something is wrong. The target 'glares' malevolently at the shooter. Whether it is a glint of sunlight from an unseen surface that has only now moved to reflect the intense light his way or a shift in incident radiation from the moving sun angled perfectly to target the Master's eye cannot be known. But concentration fails for a mili-second and that is all it takes. The shot is fired and for the first time today at this distance, Rob's Cartel Triple buries into red coloured paper. When the final scores a tallied 1299 is recorded and Rob laments the opportunity that is now lost to stand for the first time as an equal amongst 1300 shooters.
The heat has its' first victim.
Caught unaware a juvenile Lycosa leuckartii or common wolf spider has no choice but to leap. In the cool of dawn at the close of last night's hunt he settled on this wooden redoubt high above the ground. Then it had seemed a safe place to sleep. But with the heat and light of day came fearsome noise and vibration. All day missiles slammed into this wooden box that he had chosen for rest and it was now time to escape the onslaught. Launching toward the ground on a solitary thread of silk, a new terror awaits. Hot air that seeks a rapid escape from contact with the dusty earth, swirls in chaotic vortexes buffets the tiny creature. An unseen current transports him several metres along the line of timber frames. In the distance a strange group of humans stare ceaselessly through complex glass tubes and wonder why their missiles drift far from their intended impact zones. The heat conspiring with invisible air offers no oportunity for a quick explanation and no remit.
During a break in the shooting a small group of visitors discusses the amenities offered by their hosts. DVA's new sunshade is of great interest and speculation. Some wonder as to its' conformity with outdoor shooting regulations and the steps tasken to ensure compliance. Silently the memories of the day's heat, of historic battles between archer and relentless sun intersect with doubt and all are silenced. The visitors content themselves with imagined plans to impose such 'necessary' equipment at their clubs.
Transfigured by Canberra-shoot sunburn, the renowned archery babe Hannah Anderson limps painfully onto the range. With movement slowed she endures a long journey from clubhouse to her allocated target. Each step a painful assault built upon countless others. Along the line her many admirers have an opportunity to exchange pleasantries. Ever the courteous woman of archery skill and social grace she is of course willing to recipricate. However, the dashing Sir Primal of Pearson is the one who enjoys her sustained attention. Exchanging tactics, scores and a hug the couple embrace. Moments later a two minute warning is called and Hannah is forced to brush aside pain and make haste for her position on the line.
The red uniform of an Archery Australia Judge, the face of a Carter. A DVA Carter. A name know to all and feared by some. Wielding absoluted power as chief judge on target, this man, head of a DVA dynasty, today rules supreme. But even he, must take shelter today from the ceaseless attack of the sun's radiation. Installed amongst the nameless line of archers is another Carter, his son Colin, El Presidente of the host club. Such power in the hands of so few. Amongst the assembled archers perhaps there was a whisper, a brief sidewards glace. Would nepotism find favor today? Perhaps a favorable line call, outcomes fixed, trophies pre-destined for a Carter mantlepiece. All such thoughts were vanquished by the 'Solo' incident.
Taking refuge from the heat by sheltering under the shade installed by his Son and his DVA minions, Judge Carter allowed the tournament to continue momentarily without him. To cope with the rigors of absolute power in a hostile 38 degree environment, Judge Carter has his own private cache of Solo cans. In a moment of paternal bonding he mistakenly, or was it intentionally offered President Carter a drink. Up until that moment, The President had been extinguishing all opposition on target. In the moments that followed that 'Solo' drink, a massive form collapse occured that defies explanation. Observers have concluded that the drink was not a retail version of this popular carbonated beverage, but some secret elixure concocted for the Judge himself. A dose of prozac perhaps or super strength viagra? Either way, its' effect on Colin Carter was undeniable... A few less X's, and a chance for the dispossessed, disempowered multitude to bask in a few moments of glory...however fleetingly it was.
A buzz had been circulating all week. Jeans and archery do not mix. We faithful exponents of the true sport of archerery will not allow ourselves to be seen by the general public is such degrading attire. In the heat of a DVA FITA shoot, there is still no room for compromise. 'It may be too hot for jeans, but you will not keep me from wearing what I like.' She strode onto the field with the countenance of a champion. A short denim skirt revealing slender athletic legs and true determination. Erika Anear is not a woman to be messed with. Whilst some count her as amongst the most notable of archery babes, all know her as the winner of countless titles in both compound and recurve shooting. True wisdom comes from letting your actions communicate your message and letting others debate their significance. Not a word is said but the message is clear: Will you disqualify me for such a petty thing?
Blue chrome, Bowtech, 41 inches A2A, a small 'Urban Archery' sticker on the upper limb. The wielder of this weapon is new to archery. Little more than ten months into the sport and he is a master, or soon will be. A wry smile, and harmless face betrays nothing of the feats already conquired in the first months of shooting. 860 on a Canberra... "Yeah, a few times.' 325 field... "Is that supposed to be significant?" Under the protection of DVA's protective sun shade, blue chrome and Wayne O' Donnelle weave magic. 297 295 306 & 345, and it is the second competition FITA shot by this archer. In the months and years to come as Wayne climbs the ladder of success, those of us who beat him once.... just a few months ago, will lament the day Marcus Anear sold him a Bowtech.
Far down the line, a beautiful young recurver, fought the heat, challenged herself and...shot crap... but to those of us who saw this hard fought battle, at least she looked cute.... In the wings a father chatted up two attractive women whilst his son didn't know whether to be embarrased or in awe at the skills he had been shown. And finally a grumpy old man complained that the temperature was too hot and packed up his gear and left... what was his name? It matters not. As the day drew to as close Sten held the hearts and minds of several young women captive with his archery prowess and seductive machismo. As it should be when all is right with the world..
And as for your author... A PB, excellent practice for the State Target and a bloody good time. Thanks you DVA, you rock.

The shade structure is a great innovation which made a potentially gruelling day a far better experience. As Craig pointed out, we probably let slip the opportunity for higher scores given the conditions, but maybe we were lulled into it having expected 38 degrees and 35 knots. Another well run event..well done DVA.
