Hi All,

FITA is to conduct the World 3D Championships in Sopron Hungary from 6th to 10 June 2007.

Archery Australia has never sent a team to a World 3D Championships but is willing to support archers who may be interested in attending.

We do not have a selection procedure or are able to list MQS (minimum qualifying standard scores) that would be required to be team members, as we have no experience with this type of event.

We are seeking Expressions of Interest from archers who wish to attend and represent Archery Australia.

Please send written applications with a record of 3D performances in the last 2 years and relevant experience by the 16th March 2007 to

Archery Australia
P.O. Box 54 Panania NSW 2213

Email archeryaustralia@bigpond.com

Any archers attending the World 3D Championships would do so at their own expense.

The Selection Committee will review all applications and make a recommendation to the Board.

Regards

Jim Larven

Its good that AA wishes to support a team for 3D, but why cant they approach a recognised 3D organisation, like 3DAAA, and ask for their recommendations?

Or maybe 3DAAA members who wish to go should join AA and apply.

With the World IBO 3D championships in Indiana at the beginning of August, that would be an expense time of year if you went to both.

Any idea of the level of support that would be provided by AA?

As noted in the letter, it would be at the archer's own expense.
Also, as Marcus noted, competitors would need to be Archery Australia members (as otherwise they cannot participate in a FITA world championship event).

Here are the rules on the FITA website effective as of 1st January 2007:
http://www.archeryworldcup.org/UserFiles/Document/FITA%20website/05%20Rules/06%20Rules%203D%20Archery/07_Rules_3D_Archery-e.pdf

A national team is made up of a compounder, a longbower and a team member drawn from either the recurve barebow division or the "instinctive division". The instinctive equipment requirements are spelt out under the 3D rules.

Australia has plenty of archers out there shooting 3D under either 3DAAA rules or ABA rules, quite a few who are already members of AA. What about a selection trial in somewhere central like Victoria, maybe somewhere like DVA that has members shooting 3DAAA?

Not knowing anything about the way AA operates , I have a question .
Has or does AA subsidise an archer in any other event , IE do they help with expenses ?

Thanx for your in depth reply Marcus , like pulling bloody teeth around here at times !!
Oh well, I'll say what I think about it .. If AA wants people to represent them , then they should help out with costs IMO .

I think they cover the shirts and entry fee, maybe.

Always happy to help you out coach, you should know that by now.

Also a question of whether the funds are available. Would you prefer it if people were not allowed to represent Australia because AA isn't able to provide funding?

The One ,,no I would rather that Archers did go to the event , but just not for someone who We do not have a selection procedure or are able to list MQS (minimum qualifying standard scores) that would be required to be team members, as we have no experience with this type of event.

Have you considered that maybe archers have requested that AA selects a team to represent the country at this event, and that rather than say "no, we can't be bothered", they actually went about doing it? Stop being so anti-everything... ;)
