Whichever you prefer.

I say both. Think it will help the body to keep the balance better. An old coach always sad that, he also sad that if you have to close one eye, close it as late as possible.

It's an old debate of sorts.

I prefer having both eyes open and letting my dominant eye take the lead to look at my sight pin. In terms of energy, you expend more stress in keeping one eye closed for lengthly periods of time as you are not really made to have one eye closed.

In the end though, it is what is comfortable for you, especially if you shoot one sided but are oppositely eye dominanted, ie left eye dominant but shoot right handed.... of course, you can learn to switch over...

I'll expand my previous post.

Normally, I prefer to shoot with both eyes open.

I do however often have difficulties with double vision, and as a result have to close one eye.

Lots of good shooters shoot with both eyes open. Also, some good shooters shoot with one eye closed.

I really don't think it makes too much difference.

If you do have double vision problems, then it means you don't have a dominant eye :p which is supposedly better in normal terms because you have proper vision...

Hey!!! That means I'm part of a HUGE majority of freaks with IMproper vision then. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

I've only known of one person with no eye dominance although she was right handed. Didn't realize at first when I asked her to point at an object and see whichever eye was still on target. She kept moving her finger left and right because she couldn't tell.

Anyway, this eye dominance thing has never really been resolved. Most of us succumb to peer pressure sooner or later. Not many want to be the only dude with one eye closed on a shooting line with 50 other archers with both eyes open and even less dare to be the only pirate with a patch.

Both eyes open, it keeps your head and neck more relaxed.

Yes I agree after checking Ki Sik Lee's book:thumb: .

I keep my two eyes open cause I like it that way and I still have my 3D vision ;)

It has been resolved, it's just that many
a) refuse to listen
b) don't bother updating their methods
c) don't get it.

Problem is you still get high level archers in many countries either closing one eye or training their non dominant eyes to take over so who's to say what's wrong or right especially when people who's shooting 1300s are not going to waste time trying out something else.

Um, you are 100% wrong Progen
Dominant hand over dominant eye is much better

Yes, I've read, heard and been told that. Maybe that's why I'm still hovering around 1200s. :(

In my case, it's really hard for me to shift focus to the non dominant eye or to close the dominant one. I guess my dominant eye is REALLY in charge. Perhaps I should check whether I'm walking sideways one day.

It's easy to close the non dominant eye though but that's not necessary. The local pro shop guy's the same but he's trained his non dominant eye to take over and according to him, with a peep to see through, it's easier than to do the same with recurve.

Oh and about the dominant hand over dominant eye thing, there are some young kids here shooting pretty close to 1300s in recurve but who're lefties forced to shoot right handed equipment because their coach won't hear of ANYONE using left handed equipment.
