So i finally got around to calling the isp today for the password.
the conversation went a little something like this:

Receptionist: "Hello"
Me: "Yea gday, my dad got a router off you guys a few weeks back. im just calling to get the password for that?"
R: "Why?"
Me: "Because i want the password"
R: "Why do you want the password?"
Me: "Because i want he password for my router"
R: "Look im going to have to put you through to tech support so they can explain why we do not give out the password"
Tech: "You there?"
Me: "Yes."
T: "Yea what do you need the password for?"
Me: "Oh, my dad has this thing, where he likes to actually know the passwords on hardware he buys."
T: "Well... see the reason we don't give them out is because we like to manage our customers routers"
Me: "um.... i want the password"
T: "Ok. but it will be noted on your account that you have the password. any technical support that you require from now on will either be declined or charged to your account."
Me: "what ever"

so Dad is going to go in and see them after work. which pretty much means we are going to be switching ISP. Can anyone recommend Internode?

yeah Internode rocks.

I love ISP tech support stories they usually involve idiots reading a sheet struggling to understand they are not computer experts.

Internode for me. Their late night tech support got a bit of a workout when I was trying to set up for ADSL, but I found them to very patient and helpful.

ADSL2+ isnt available in my area as of yet. are the 8Mb plans worth the money?

I'm on internode.

8mb rocks.

At home I average 6MB sec downloads.

At work we are using ADSL2 and honestly is averages about 9MB sec, sometimes on a Microsoft Download Server it will burst much higher.

So all depends on your line (and the rest) to the exchange. But not having ADSL2 isn't isn't such a handicap compared to 8mb ADSL.

Another vote from me - Telstra, Otpus told us ADSL not available where you live and no forseeable date - MMMMMmmmm

Contact Internode - 3 Weeks later we have ADSL thankyou very much.

aaNet are a quality ISP if your not up for ADSL2, their 1.5mb and 8mb plans ROCK.

And I've been with them going on two and a half years and I don't have a single complaint.

One of my mates had heaps of trouble with Internode, it was pretty unreliable apparantly, and they're not having any problems with who they're with now. (Not sure who.)

Internode. If you need help at Internode just ask specifically for andrewc - we all know he's incredibly patient with the less technologically minded, and can usually explain what to do in two words! :D
