Can an arrow be too stiff for a well tuned compound bow?
I looked into this recently and yes, apparently it can. I didn't really understand why but maybe JP can tell you. I chose my new arrows in a spine that suited 50-55lbs but could also be used 55-60lbs later when the muscles come along. I've noticed a lot of carbons and a/c spines have this versatility.

Yes, just the same as you can have an arrow that is too stiff for a recurve bow.
Just as you need to have the arrow from a recurve flex at the correct rate to get out of a recurve, you need it to flex at the correct rate to get out of a compound, but in a vertical plane rather than in the horizontal plane for a recurve. If the arrow is too stiff it will flex too quickly.
However, with the compound there is a little more scope to get arrow clearance over the launcher, so you can get away with an arrow that is either too stiff or not sufficiently stiff quite a bit more easily than you could with a recurve.
I have discovered that "drop down" rests have an advantage when it comes to paper testing if arrow spine appears a problem.
Anyone else find this?
I switched to a Bernadini recently & the tuning result has amazed me!
ozzy with the dropaway rest what is the advantage can you shoot underspined or overspined arrows, i use a trophytaker dropaway rest for hunting but thats mainly for clearance with carbon arrows with as much heilcal as i can get on the vanes...matt
