Do I take it this is official now? I recall some discussion about it on here but not the final word. I read on another site about it as that sport had been cut and Archery added. They haven't started with the sport v sport debate yet but I am sure this is to come. Is it recurve? Compound? Both?

Yes, official, both.

Well it is correct for India 2010. :thumb:

The host country for 2014 would need to choose sports for their games if I understand anything about the CG's. But I may be wrong. Jim?

Correct, archery is only confirmed for 2010, and is on the "only if the organisers feel like running it" list.

Thanks. I thought that was the case.

Archery's a category 2 sport for 2010 (which I think means it could be dropped, but it's unlikely). Glasgow's 2014 bid excludes archery - not sure what the other 2014 bidders are doing. Halifax (Nova Scotia) is bidding for 2014, and is providing some funding for archery to other Commonwealth countries for 2010 (bribe? nah), so they may be more favourable.

Three bids are in for the 2014 CG's, and a decision will be made on 9/11/07 as to the host location. They are:

Abuja, Nigeria http://www.abuja2014.org/welcome.htm

Glasgow, Scotland http://www.glasgow2014.com/ourbid/gateway.html

Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada http://www.2014halifax.com/home.aspx?culture=en-CA

None of the nominees seem to have nominated the sports they will hold at this stage, and that seems to be in accordance with the decision only last year by Delhi to hold archery.

Since their inception in 1930, games have been hosted by:

Australia 4
Canada 4
NZ 3
Scotland 2
England 2
Wales, Malaysia and Jamaica 1 each with India to come

The CG site is a bit hard to get details of archery from, but it would seem to me that it may only have been included in CG's once before in Brisbane, 1982.

Calling Mr Gee; come in Mr Gee.

Well that filled in an hour. :D

Very subtle favouritism for Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Nothing to do with this, I hope

Location: Halifax, UK

I think you pommies are lagging though, only hosting 2. But, then again, you might be presently distracted by 2012. ;)

Thanks again, numero uno.

All current CG records are recurve and shot in 1982. I notice that Neroli Fairhall (NZ) holds the double FITA record at 2373. The mens record is 2446.

I think the Delhi games will blow those records away, provided they shoot a double FITA, and not go to matchplay, which is very likely IMO.

Allegedly, the UK is thinking about hosting the next Commonwealth Archery Championships in 2008. Could be in either England or Northern Ireland. It would be a good lead-up to the CG's themselves!

It makes perfect sense to run an Archery event at these CG's, India have a very strong team now and the venue set up cost would be minimal.

Does anyone know what the qualification criteria would be? Is it like the best 4 archers per country or the best 4 that can shoot a pre determined score eg 1200?

I don't know whether they have decided on the format of the event, so the qualification method would likely have to wait for that to be announced.

Yeah it will be great to watch the Home Team get DQ'd in the Matchplays :)
