View Full Version : 2007 Combined Nationals WA
Would some 'in the know' person out there in Archery Land please explain to a less informed person, i.e. me, re the reason for the inconsistencies in the AA and WA Organisers of the event re the date and destination of application lodgement for the events?
The AA site states:
"SEND ENTRIES TO
Robyn Birch
5 Tattler Place
YANGEBUP WA 6164
ENTRIES CLOSE - Friday 16th February 2007"
as does the "The Combined Championships Entry Conditions" available from the Official "2007 Open Nationals" site at:
http://www.2007opennationals.archerywa.com.au/
Thought you still had enough time did you?? Wait, there's more!
On the "Information and Entry Forms Link" from the Official site Home page, there is a statement in red, which says:
"ENTRY FORMS
Entry forms must be returned to your State Secretary by 2nd February 2007 State Secretaries are to verify the entrants affiliation and sign the bottom of the entry form and forward all entries to:
2007 Open Nationals Committee
To arrive NO LATER than 15th of February 2007 "
I say, WHAT THE ????
I have some questions in regard to this enlightening gem.
What happens if the 2nd Feb has already past - as it has?
Why is this necessary and did anyone let the State Secretaries know?
If applications have to be double processed and money orders or cheques became/become detached or lost in the process, who becomes accountable?
Why was this information omitted from the Entry Form, the Conditions and the AA site?
Has it now become a prerequisite to have the Internet to enter the Nationals?
Insights Welcome.

Well my entry went to the Tattler Place address. If for some reason it doesn't end up where it is supposed to be...... on time... I will be rather miffed.
I presume either option gets you entry there.... but i for one followed the directions on the form... That is right ladies, a man who followed the direction on the form... it does happen! occasionally Although if I had asked any of my mates, I'd have done what they suggested in preference to the official directions.

I'd say you'd be right going, so long as you have your snow-white slacks.... They'll find a spot for you

Beaurocracy gone mad :)
DD isn't far off the mark! Just to add to the "Beaurocracy gone mad", an anonymous 'knowledgeable advisor' has pointed me to AA Rule 3.1.2 which states:
"3.1.2 Entries
...Entries for championships events accompanied by fees payable, shall
be forwarded to the tournament committee [not State Secretary!] on the appropriate entry
forms provided for that purpose and shall close with the host
tournament committee two months prior to the commencement of the
championships.... [Page Dated 1/7/05]"
Oh Yeh??? They must be dreaming or inhabit a different planet to the rest of us.
Then again, maybe this is all intended just to inspire a sense of confidence!:silly:

I too sent my entry direct to Robyn Birch, a couple of months ago.
There was no mention on the form about sending it via any regional officer, and as I was not a member of the State team at the time it never occurred to me to check.
What a bizarre bureaucratic hoop to expect anyone jump through!

Bizarre indeed!
This Nationals seems like a circus.

Send it straight to Robyn, there is no section on the form that a State Secretary has to initial, so there's no problem there.
As long as it's got money with it and gets to us before the closing date - it'll go in.
So there's conflicting information, thanks for bringing it to our attention (we have asked for the information to be removed from the AA site as it is outdated - it appears as though it still hasn't been removed): as for those who think that it is sh'te, too difficult to understand, or will be miffed, if you sent your form to the address stated before the 15th Feb, you'll be fine..
If by "circus" you mean "fun" Luke, you're exactly right! :p

Why the 15th?
Now we have the 12th, the 15th and the 16th.
yay!

Where'd the 12th come from? I'm only aware of the 15th and the 16th being the issue (please bring it to my attention if the 12th was also mentioned somewhere), which is rather simple to resolve - get it in before the 15th and you'll be fine.

Hmm, I sent mine to the state secretary a week or so ago.
I wonder if he has a clue why?
Oh well, have fun everyone:-)

Sent mine to Robyn today express post so should be OK.
It's old info on the AA site, if you sent it to Robyn it will be fine, if you sent it to your state then follow it up pronto and let Robyn know. (I would think)

In years past they did indeed need to go to the State Secretary. That was so they could check you were a member and also so that the States would know who was going in relation to State Teams. The problem with it was that the organising committee then got all the entries (and entry fees) just a few weeks prior to the event.
It is much better for the organising committee to get it direct and early (speaking here as the Chairman of the organising committee for 2005). You do indeed need the 2 months for such a large and complex event as the Nationals. Getting the entry fees early is a huge help in relation to buying things like target faces (you need a zillion of them).
This rule was changed for the 2004 Nationals (I think) and certainly used since.

Your explanation goes some way re explaining the reason for AA rule 3.1.2 but it still leaves the anomalies as stated in the first message on the thread open to conjecture /discussion.
i.e.: When did/do entries for this years National close? The 2nd, the 15th or the 16th Feb. Were entries sent direct to WA still valid without the RGB State Secretary's approval even though all the 'official' AA correspondence did not state that the approval was required. When does the 50% 'late' penalty cut in (after the 15th or the 16th)? The confusion is/was unnecessary and seems to be being ignored. If push came to shove, given so many inconsistencies, it would seem the organisers would have difficulty in enforcing any related penalties.
Of course these questions/observations are not directed at yourself, who takes an interest in these issues, but rather at organisers that expect to be taken seriously on a national and international platform.
Enough said! Beating your head against a brick wall is only worthwhile because it feels so good when you stop!

If it's in before the 16th, you won't be paying late entry fees. Don't worry.
There has been some conflicting information around, due to some differences in the dates of information published on the AA website, which should now have been removed. DON'T LOOK AT THE AA WEBSITE FOR NATIONALS INFORMATION.
Go to the ASWA site instead.

I am not sure that the AA rule on where to send entries was ever changed - it may not have been. (I simply ignored it for 2005).
Simply, several Nationals Organising Committee Chairmen (including me for 2005) took the pragmatic decision that they needed the entries to come direct rather than via the State Secretaries and implemented it.
Those who have run a Nationals will know that it is neccessary.

Does anyone know if we are getting any notification of entry acceptance

It'll be ok. Did you allow for the time differential. When the mail crosses the border to WA, it goes back in time 10 years.
So in actual fact you will be shooting the 1997 Nationals ;)

And in the way of a confirmation thingy, I remember discussing one at the last meeting, so I THINK one will be sent out soonish, although we still have a few details to clear up before it comes out.

Now for all you Archers attending these nats you are expected to dress in accordance with the ..."code" ;)
The following examples are deemed to be "cool" by the organising commitee, all be it slightly stiff.
