I love my techno... however, don't know many artists, just the techno. Otherwise I like bands such as Disturbed to Coldplay. Varies.

"I'm an asshole... A...S S.. H. O L E, "

lol, I have a story behind this song.. in year 8 we had this teacher, very annoying. And so we took that song and reworded it. Lol, I won't put it up, but that was probably the best year at highschool for me. :p

The Downeaster "Alexa" - Billy Joel
Goodnight Saigon - Billy Joel
Piano man - Billy Joel
Lots of other Billy Joel stuff

Heard it through the grapevine - Creedence (Hello OD :D )
Lots of other Creedence stuff

Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen
Is this the world we created - Queen
And, yes lots of other Queen stuff

You are so beautiful - Joe Cocker
And .....

Bit of a story behind my music tastes. I am obviously an old fart, but when a lot of the above music was created it was hardly ever played on Oz radio which was infatuated by pommie Beatles/Stones etc and yankee Beach boys etc. and Oz upcomers (insert name of 70/80's group here).

I was aware of Queen, and occasionally picked up some of their music, but society was not very user friendly for the alternative sex in those days, and I was not impressed by Freddy and his antics. It was only about 10 years ago that I started to seriously listen to the Queen music, and recognise a lot of it for very innovative, and bloody good.

Similarly with Creedence. Had previously heard some of their music, but did not get into them until about 15 years ago. And with Cocker also.

I did not get seriously into Joel until given tickets to a concert in Sydney about 15 years ago. I was blown away. He writes brilliant lyrics IMO. Goodnight Saigon particularly gets me as I was in the "green machine" for part of the Vietnam War.

Just my .02c worth, as a person who has never heard of most of the above mentioned songs or performers posted by others. :(

THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE FAVORITE SONG.

my absolute favorite song of all time is....

Tales of brave ullyses - creme (bruce, baker, calpton)

sample found here - http://music.yahoo.com/track/1000473

""Tales of Brave Ulysses" is a song performed by the 1960s group Cream. It was written by Eric Clapton and Martin Sharp. The song is featured on Cream's album Disraeli Gears. The lyrics were written by Martin Sharp on the back of a beer mat, which he gave to Eric Clapton after a chance meeting. These lyrics were put to a series of chords inspired by The Lovin' Spoonful's "Summer in the City", and made to scan by Cream singer Jack Bruce.

The song also featured Eric Clapton's first use of the wah wah pedal.

i'm with you with the jazz, Ninevalleys especially with 5/4 numbers like No Balanco do Jequibau.

my fav music would have to be Dave Brubeck playing Take 5 although he didn't write it - his saxophonist, Paul Desmond did. Luke, the 3 Brubeck pieces you mention i actually play. tough pieces to make sound good tho considering brubeck's hands are huge and have a very wide span.

Frommy, i also saw Dudley Moore in concert waaaay too long ago but what a night. have always tried to emulate his playing style but never succeeded.

lately, i've been listening in on Sten's japanese bands and really enjoy Dir En Grey and L'Arc en Ciel. anything with a catchy (off) beat normally grabs my attention :)

I attended the concert tour where the Daly Wilson Big Band were the supporting act. That was a great band in adapting music of others. Was that the same tour as yourself?

yes i think it was although i don't remember the big band as i do Dudley. i think i first heard him on the 'not only but also' TV show with Peter Cook, and fell for Dud's musical style. i'd almost forgotten about Song for Suzie - quite unique lol.

Keeping this to just songs is a bit tricksy, but here goes:

Metallica - For Whom the Bell Tolls
Iron Maiden - Number of the Beast
Meat Loaf - Bat out of Hell
Creed - Who's Got My Back
The Offspring - Come Out and Play
Foo Fighters - In Your Honour (f'k'n awesome in concert)
Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody
The Verve - Bitter Sweet Symphony
Stabbing Westward - Save Yourself
Rage Against the Machine - Killing in the Name
The Chemical Brothers - Alive Alone
VNV Nation - Dark Angel
U2 - Where the Streets Have No Name
The Pogues - Fairytale of New York (best Christmas song ever)
The Smashing Pumpkins - Bullet with Butterfly Wings
Third Eye Blind - Never Let You Go

It's interesting to see how closely this doesn't match what Amarok thinks my favourite tracks are. It's only got a couple of months of statistics, which may not be enough; that and I deliberately don't go out of my way to play my favourite songs in it much.

lately, i've been listening in on Sten's japanese bands and really enjoy Dir En Grey and L'Arc en Ciel. anything with a catchy (off) beat normally grabs my attention :)

What got Sten into Japanese Music?
