Whilst going through the pain of learning how to shoot an Evolution
i.e back tension I need to get another trigger release so I can keep
shooting out Saturday Afternoon rounds.

What is the best/most popular trigger release? Anyone using a Carter Hammer
for instance?

Your opinions would be appreciated.

Need to find something that you feel comfortable with basically...

Although, general consensus seems to be: 3 finger, carter, and with a hook that opens away from your face.

BUT, if you don't feel comfortable with it you'll shoot crap anyway.

My 2c = Insatiable 3 or 4.

Btw, can have your evo? :D

Use the Evolution on Saturdays. Accept your score may be crap.
Or don't shoot club competition until you've got the Evo nailed.
Why go back to shooting something you're obviously trying to unlearn?

Your probably right Sandy - just frustrated because it is not coming together as quickly as I thought. Thanks

Liam- Btw ?

By the way. That sentence was supposed to read: By the way, can I have your evolution?

But I'm retarded and lazy.

patto10,

Put all your triggers away, and don't buy another.

As Sandy said, concentrate on the Evolution.

Suck up the fact that your scores may drop initially, and think long term.

Dude... Get hold of 'Straight Talk From the Pros.' - 2003 Carter Enterprises - Gene Brehm Productions. I watched the first part about 'beating target panic' and ALL of the pros said when they overcame target panic they all went back to basics with a BT...

You need to keep that thing and perfect it, I am using a Tru Ball BT Gold and personally I dont want a trigger...

BT is the best thing you can do for your form. Ask everyone at your club for it... If they cant find it download it. If you cant download it pm me and I will rip it and upload/poast it to you.

(I DO NOT condone piracy however you MUST have this if you are not enjoying your BT.)

I agree with all the comments about BT release aids for form, but there are still top archers shooting world records using thumb triggers.
They work fine if used correctly.
After trial & tribulation I have accepted a BT release is not for me personally & content to use a Carter Target 4.
I even know of a few archers shooting top scores with a Cascade (relax thumb mode ) - believe it or not.

That's very true Ozzy ;)

Of course, many of the world's top shooters use triggers and use them brilliantly.

Trigger releases are great if you use them well.

My comments about putting the triggers away are confined to the context in which I assume patto10 wants to learn how to shoot a BT well.

;)

The only thing is how many of them went back to/started with a BT to improve form?

Only point I am making is that just because they dont shoot it now doesnt mean they didnt in the past...

Alot of people use both and swear that this helps keep top form

I just use the Stan Super X Quattro - best release I have found so far trigger wise - set up all I need is to move pinky finger slightly to release.

I have both and shoot both. I use the trigger mainly because frankly I score higher with it. I have however been shooting rounds indoor with the back tension because it requires a particular action to use that I also like to use with my trigger. On Sunday at the states I had that action working well at 90m and 70m and scored well with it.
Now I might say 'just use the BT all the time' but I personally find that if I use the trigger not quite right I still score reasonably well, but with the BT not quite as well.
I also enjoy just shooting the BT indoors every now and then.

However not any BT release will do. I score higher with a Carter Bighorn which is no longer made. :(

Did anyone else find this never came to a conclusion? lol marcus...

I totally understand what you are saying it just took a second to compute... :P

In the end its down to the good old fashion 'personal choice' BUT you get to have more personal choice when you're hitting X's. Untill then Im workin with my BT - as I would encourage most beginners to do.

Excellent video and well worth a look! Having watched the video several times the constant theme is for the surprise release rather than a push for btr’s. Btr’s are referenced in the video as the best way to allow the archer to experience a surprise release. There didn’t appear to be a preference for btr with most using thumb (trigger) releases, but using back tension to activate the release.

I have tried most of the Carter Range being a distributor & staff shooter for them, each has it own attributes. I shoot the Target 3, but I train with the 3 finger Atension Hinge.

I have used the Evolution plus, amazing, but takes time to get used too, they are all good.

The price and quality of Carter is just outstanding.

I also like the Insatiable 3, all the great attributes of the Target 3 but fits your hand really well.

Straight Talk from Michael Braden is also well worth a look, a lot more shooting instruction rather than just Q & A like on Straight Talk From the Pro's. Both are great video's though.
