After going down to Chirstchurch again last weekend it strikes me that all of the other clubs I have been to in New Zealand are lacking, the Christchurch club has it all, a large building and also has a new indoor range on site in the plans, it would have to be the best club I have been to (in NZ, DVA was a very nice club compared to what i am used too) so far.
i am just wondering why it is so hard for the clubs mainly the ones in Auckland to take the plans for the portable targets and fixed shooting lines that are used down in Christchurch? I think if most of the clubs were run like Christchurch the sport would be slightly more appealing and also it would do wonders for the reputation archery in New Zealand rather than the clubs that are falling to pieces such as the lovely Shore Archery Club (you have to love the bricks that it sits on).
Just wondering what you people think? J.

I want names!:p
It's being thought after... tho for Club like our, the target have to be bull-proof too, that's where the problem lies...

Dare to say my club is falling to pieces! Cornwall Park is lovely to shoot in! And we are in immediate contact with all the other park users (specially kids), with is great for PR/reputation/ recruitment... Some people even come to shoot with us now ;)
And it's your club after all... if you're not happy about the way it's run, do something about it, like making suggestions to your club committee.

I'm pretty sure James could get himself elected onto his club committee without too much trouble. No doubt his plans to improve the club would happen with great speed and efficiency then!

Hi Everyone... Just wondering if all Archery clubs in NZ are FITA clubs or is there a 3d/aba/field type organisation there as well. The sister (lives in Wellington) has been over and shooting 3D type archery with me and wants to shoot in NZ... I will get her into a FITA club if that is whats available but was wondering abut the other styles and if they have shoots there as well.
Thanks in advance.

Christchurch leading the way
that's pleasing to hear since you would have expected Auckland to be the one.
just that I like the South Island so that's a positive.
I was touring South Island a few weaks ago...loved it!

It must be time for you to come to Gisborne and see what you are missing, we have everything you are looking for a 30m indoor range built for archery and portable butts outdoors modeled from the DVA club

you should go man
gizz is a great place to shoot. id say the best outdoor buts in the country easily. more clubs need to do what they have. as for the indoor its great but as you said it is still gizborne.

Auckland club is way ahead and it didn't take them til now to setup a indoor range. Sure Christchurch archery club is very nice but don't get ahead of yourselves.
Maybe speak to local goverment and see what can be done in your area, they are normally willing to help but you need to have a plan of attack.

I wish our council was as nice as you make them sound - we can't expand anywhere because, ooh, we might disturb the seashell middens on One Tree Hill (so the rest of the hill is COVERED in midden, we'd hardly be disturbing much of it) and ooh, if we have a bigger clubhouse you might ruin the rustic appearance of the park.
Yippee.
Of course, the whole having the time and money to do so factor may come before asking the council for permission ...

At last count there were at lest six archery clubs of different types in the Auckland region.
Plus indoor leagues.
If anybody can't find them,,,,,,they should open their eyes, most of them have been here 20-30 years and more.
The South island???????????you have to be joking.:thumb: good one mate:rofl:
