View Full Version : New Computer program

In addition to "Accurate Sights", I have another archery program.
This one lets you enter a round and a score and it calculates the score index (following the formula in the AA rule book). I use it extensively in my recording of my scores, so that I can relate my performance from round to round over time. It works for AA round, FITA rounds, FITA field and IFAA field.
The program is robust, but does not have a help system (yet), although its use is pretty obvious.
It is not a program I plan to sell (unlike Accurate Sights), but if anyone would like to use it I would be happy to hand it out for free (on the basis of no support).
It is written in Visual Basic, and runs of a PC with at least Windows 95 (sorry Marcus). If you already have Accurate Sights all you will need is the .exe file (about 120 kbytes - easy to download), otherwise you need the whole application (about 1.5 Mbytes).
Any interest?

Yep, always interested in archery programs. Make sure you bring some copies of your Accurate Sights software to the Flight shoot. I wish to buy one. (have VPC running)
Do you know what calculation is applied to the scores shot? Is it different on each round?

The calculations to work out the score rating is the same for each round.
For a particular rating, the archer's average group size is worked out at the particular distances (a Gaussian distribution is assumed, and the rating determines the standard devation). This is then superimposed on the target rings and the average score calculated. I have found that it quite accurately reflects the scores an archer gets at the various distances.
The maths is included in one of the appendices of the AA rule book (it was originally developed by Paul Bysouth, me, and an archer from Adelaide Archery Club, back in the 1970's). To ensure that it represented real archer performance we used many hundreds of scores from the World Championships and State Championships where we could readily compare the scores archers shot at different distances.

Sounds Good Jim. I already have Accurate Sights. Can you email the file to me. cm_carter@bigpond.com
Sounds like a neat program James. I have the same basic program written in excel where I can put in a score and it relates to what class the score is at and a neat bar chart which shows me how well, or bad i'm shooting over the week/month, but yes I'd be interested in a copy of your program, I already have a copy of accurate sites so is there a site I could download the extra file from ?

If Marcus is happy, I could email the .exe file to him and he could (somehow) make it available to those who have Accurate Sights and only need the .exe. Otherwise, I will need your email addresses. Happy either way.
I don't yet have a web site from which you can download it. Leigh Cornish and I are working on such a site to cover both Accurate Sights and the Titan Scope, but we have been a bit slack and not yet got it finished. We are going to put in a bit more concerted effort now the Nationals are over.

Yep I'm more than happy to host it for you and supply a download link, email it to me and I'll make it happen.

Nice look Paul :D (the Avatar)!
BTW Jim..... luke@dva.asn.au is my email address.
I'd love a copy of the program described above to play with, as you know, I use Accurate sights, so just the .exe will be fine.
Thanks!

Jim, I like the concept, I know you are going to say what good is it to an ABA shooter, however, I think I may need it
I would require the whole 1.5meg and I do have broadband. So if Marcus gets it up I can D/L it otherwise I am open to suggestions. Thanks for the work you do for Archery Jim , it is appreciated. If you need it my email addy is mechanix@bigpond.com

How conplex are the calculations Jim? I wanted to build something like this for an online score tracking system I built early last year but could not find the calculations used anywhere. Would be great to goto a site, eneter in your score and recieve your rating.

I will see if I can assist Marcus with building it into the web.

Well I've built the first bit. It is going to take some time, but I'll post updates as they go along so you all can see the project take shape.
This bit you enter in the rating and the distance and it will give you your group size.

I have updated my program to include all the English rounds (Yorks, etc), and to allow you to try a different arrow diameter (so that you can see the effect of large diameter arrows for indoors, for example). It also covers FITA and IFAA field rounds so you can relate scores for those to target rounds. I have also now included the FITA indoor rounds with inner 10 ring and the FITA 70M qualifying round.
As noted earlier in this thread, if you want this program it is a freebie. If you already have "Accurate Sights" all you need is the executable file which is quite small and easy to email. If you do not have "Accurate Sights" you will need quite a large download because you will need all the Visual Basic stuff (but you could get "Accurate Sights" from the forum shop and then this one is easy).
I will give a a go thanks already have Accurate Sights so just the small
exe thanks :D

I would like the "large" file thanks Jim.

Jim,
I have Accurate Sights so the small scoring exe would be greatly appreciated.
thanks, Tony

I dont know if its possible but i think it would be great to include a 'custom' section. ie a bit where you can enter a distance, number of arrows, and score, to calculate the index. That way you could break down any round into the various ranges to tell which range is your weakest and needs more practise.

The same thing can be achieved by using the ratings calculator at the bottom of this page:

I can email the .exe file, which is very small. Simply replace the old one and you have it.
(I have already sent it to those above).

Jay,
As you do not have Accurate Sights yet, I will need to email you the full application rather than just the exe file. Is that ok (about 2Mbytes).

I've just ordered it now from the shop, so if you don't mind I'll let you know when I get it and you can send it then.
Thanks,
Jay.
BTW, Welcome home, Nice to have met you.
Jim,
I have done some work on a spreadsheet where you enter your score and the rating is calculated using the AA rating tables. You can then look up your rating to see your classification (GMB, MB, 1st Class, etc). Would you be interested in having a look at this and maybe getting it posted on the web or developing it further.
PKF :o

I've been looking at a version for web use, see it at
www.archery-forum.com/maths.lasso
The problem with it is that the only way I can see it working fast enough by entering your scores to receive your rating is with a lookup table, which is inaccurate.
If you want to send me a copy PKF I will look at it and see if I can get it love on the web, with correct credits etc
