Since they're Australian based, I was wondering whether anyone here has used their hosting services or know folks working with them. I paid for a Windows hosting plan last December since I was using ASPs and VBscript. Just got an email this morning saying that they'd be changing to Linux servers in early April and customers were to update their DNS accordingly.

I then asked what would happen to my ASP pages and they said it'd be an extra USD5 each month to have Chilisoft ASP but the Access database wouldn't be supported so I'd still be screwed.

I then asked for a refund since I paid for a Windows hosting plan which with just about every webhoster is more expensive than that of a Linux one. They said no refund so I asked POLITELY whether that would be considered shortchanging a customer. They simply ignored that question and replied that they would be reserving space on their Linux server should I still want to continue using their services.

Do I have a case here?

They did state explicitly that they supported ASP.

I was using ASPs and VBscript.
My condolences.

Don't know about a 'case' as such - I guess what it comes down to is that they're no longer offering a service. Unless you've got some sort of contract where they promise to offer it after April then they're allowed to get rid of it if they want.

Seems like an odd move though, since it'll obviously cause hassles for their customers - although it sounds like they're downplaying it nicely by suggesting you update your DNS but not mentioning any of the other details.
Maybe they don't have many customers using ASP and hence requiring Windows and basically don't care if you go elsewhere?

The domain name's under another registrar and I got an email saying that someone has requested for that password. Things are getting stranger. Was the host trying to make the switch without me noticing that it's no longer under a Windows host?

Like you wouldn't notice that it had stopped working completely?
Does seem quite odd...

Two reasons.

1. Not many people visit sites which they've done. They're more probably sick of seeing the same pages. :D

2. The transfer will only be effective in early April.

Yeah, but you might get an e-mail from a customer.... then again, they'd probably just go elsewhere if all they got back was 500.100 :-D

There's only a front page right now. Still waiting for more details from the boss about what's to be put up. He's taking his time (already 3 months) so I'm doing the same. :D

Anyway, that site's not to sell anything and it was more for us to have email addresses.
