just wondering what people think about the present uniform and what people would like too see from an international uniform if it was changed?
personally i think loose the green and get real New Zealand shades, black white silver and grey.

Yep agree with the NZ colours, green is just chronic bullsh*t. The only problem with the darker shades though it'll get bloody hot in them, and archers stay in the sun for a long time

agreed that too much of a dark colour would be a silly idea but there is always uniforms such as Ali's junior worlds shirts or the youth Olympic shirts i have, which have the black and silver/gray but also are mainly white.

I agree NZ colours should be black and white with the silver fern I dont know where the green came from, If you go to any international events for any other sports the kiwis are always in black and white

Has this type of uniform discussion come up in the AGM before?

Not any AGM i have been to, why not put it to the athelete commission to bring up at the next board meeting

Before doing that, it would be best to have a solid argument rather than something iffy

It was made specially, anyone got any suggestions on what they would like in the international uniform? materials design etc..? even track suite..

Material like the ones we have for the Australis nationals. The soft smooth ones, thats light and we can move freely in.

I too think that Black white and silver should be the way to go. But the only way that those colours would work, and look good is if we had a completely custom made shirt like the Aussie uniform, or that NZ Black Caps one, (which i think is kinda cool), which is fully printed with a pattern or Logo taking up most of the shirt. That kind of shirt could get a bit pricey though.
Prodominantly white shirts just blend in with the crowd at tournaments, and I for one think its quite nice to stand out a wee bit :-)
I mean dont get me wrong, I love my Jnr Worlds shirt, but more so because of what it represents, not so much becasue of the actual shirt itself.
And i think the tracksuit needs to be just like James Youth Olympics one, same material, same colour, same design.... just different logo. Our Rain pants and Jackets that we have at the moment are ickie! and they're noisy as when you walk :-)
By the way.... I've always been told that the green we have now was stolen from the old Air NZ green...(before they changed to that puke green/grey that they have now! lets hope we dont end up wearing that!!)

It's really more of a teal than a green
Either way it doesn't reflect 'New Zealand' to me.

Seeing Air NZ used to be called TEAL, perhaps teal's the colour it's meant to be, though from memory your uniforms are more green than that? :-?

I think you should all wear a black shirt with a silver collar & silver shorts with a black pin strip. Should not be that hot.

as always brocky with another helpful idea.
i was thinking about the shorts - as archers are athletes supposedly, why not go with semi soccer shorts (with pockets, there always good for matchplay or when your bored) instead of "either black or white shorts - but the team has to look the same" so we all go running through India trying to find some shorts to shoot in
i like the Youth Olympic track suite and its more serious and comfortable looking than the present one.

I think the colour and overall design for the new Zealand uniform is pretty poor, the material for pants and Jacket is horrible, espicially the pants when it gets hot... and the noise they make is really loud. the design for jacket is just...flambuyant? weird? impulsive? it definitely stands out but not in a good way...
The shirt's colour is just really random, yea someone told me why it was this green but i forgot and I don't really want it to be in green. I'd reckon a grade shade with silver fern logo would do, though plain but people can elabourate. Material wise I'd like it if its made from the same material as alot of the running shirts that keeps you cool and very comfortable.

Carole told me that apparently a lot of NZ sports teams used to used the same colour back 10-20 years ago. Personally I don't mind the colour, but agree that it doesn't really identify with NZ anymore.
The positives are that it stands out on the shooting line, if we changed, I'd want a scheme that still stood out. A white base simply doesn't give you that.
And yes, the pants and jacket material is not very good for the cost...

I wasnt trying to be funny:rolleyes: . Most people around the world relate to a NZ sporting team because of the All Blacks or the cricket team which wear black as a uniform with a silver furn.
Its like most people around the world look at the sporting team wearing the colour of green and relate to the Irish. Its a culture which has been presented over a period of time by different countries so that people see the colour and relate to the country. Just my thought. Im proud to wear the colours of my country which people have come to know as Australian.

"either black or white shorts - but the team has to look the same" so we all go running through India trying to find some shorts to shoot in
Remind me again when that happened? I bought my own black shorts at home and wore those, nobody said they all had to be identical.

not identical but the same colours, i can remeber quite a few of the team in an Adidas store getting black shorts because they only brought white ones with them and had to find some black ones to shoot in.
personaly i would like to shoot in a colour that was Kiwi orientated and be comfortable blending in slightly than standing out like a sore thumb wearing a shirt that has no similarity to all other New Zealand international uniforms.

I think a mainly white shirt so we're not too but with bold black and silver trimmings so we do stand out a bit would be perfect. Hey James, if you get some decent drawings done that we're all keen on, we should see if we can find a company that could make them up for us and get some quotes and samples so we've got something solid to present at the AGM next year :)
And the junior Olympics tracksuit is great, definitely think we get something along those lines. I wouldn't mind paying a wee bit more for a nice tracksuit, either.

I would be quite happy with the shirts we've already got. But in different colours, i.e. white where the green normaly is and black where the white bits are. but the current tracksuit has to go.

met some of the NZ team at the Perth Nats just gone, in their 'green', not turquoise, shirts. Great guys, crap shirts, pretty good shooters, pretty crap shirts. Perhaps that colour is trying to simulate the green colour or the NZ rivers from the schist rock, that would explain a lot cos they do look a bit schist.
Get real NZ, you gotta have some combination of black, white, silver and grey. You guys work out the ratios to suit fabric, heat, comfort etc.
Blind Freddy can see that's the way to go.
sort it out quick smart.

Yea, the colour sucks. I understand that it used to be an official NZ colour but no one wears it now, except us. Chloe had a good idea of having the base colour silver grey like the cricketers had at one stage. Far enough off white to stand out but still recognisable as NZ colour. She came up with some quite good designs too. I say screw the cost, lets find a uniform that we like then get some competition going to get a reasonable price instead of always going back to the same expensive crap place that can't even make clothes.

Ya know, its kinda funny, this last week in Perth I had so many compliments on our uniform from people.... So it really cant be all that bad! I was also reminded in Perth just how good the Teal actually is on a crowded shooting line, and how the Jackets really are quite striking, and recognisable, even when looking from one end of the range at a jacket down the other end.
Seriously though.... (please dont take this in the wrong way, It's not meant to be mean or anything, just something to consider).... most people would be absolutely thrilled to be representing their country and wearing their countries uniform... but for some reason all of you complaining about it think that its not good enough for you... or maybe its that you think your too good for it.
If you dont want to wear the uniform then dont put your name down to be part of NZ teams.... others have done it in past years, so they could wear what they like. The only time its necessary to be in a National team is for Worlds and things of that calibre.
I wear my uniform with pride, and I actually really like the uniform (and not just becasue I designed the shirt). The only thing i think needs to be altered a wee bit is the material of the tracksuit.
Ali :-)

I don't really agree there, Ali. Representing your country should always come before how much you like the colour scheme of the uniform.
I don't mind the shirts too much, think they're quite good, but I think what the other guys are trying to say is that they represent their country with pride, but that is not one and the same as wanting to improve the uniform.

I'm sure your team are very proud to represent NZ, but would prefer if others new they were the NZ team, instead of "what country is that?"
......."think that's NZ"......"Oh, why are they wearing green then?"
........"I think they want to stand out or something" ......"Why?"
Australia could be in Purple and Brown, and the Japanese in Bright flouro Pink,
yeah, that would stand out!
C'mon NZ.........get real

The best end I have ever seen was that of Shaun Teasdale (NZ) in the first FITA at the Nationals this year. At 90M he shot a 60 with 5 X's, and very nearly 6 X's. It was very impressive indeed. Did anyone get a picture?
when you shoot like this, you want people to know your from NZ
great shooting Shaun.

Representing the country with pride is very tied in to wanting to give your country a good reputation: most importantly to compete well, but also to look good while you're doing so.

I reckon its just your pretty face, Ali - When you're wearing it, of course it looks good ;)
We'd stand out nicely in silver and black too, don't you think? The best thing about our current tracksuit is it makes people easier to spot at the airport ...
