Google does not know. I thought maybe Marcus might. My new MacBook Pro DVD drive is too fast. If I try and use it on my lap or in bed, it vibrates. It has actually warped one of my burnt DVDs. I can only use it on a table.

Your laptop doesn't happen to have hdparm on it? I've never used it for that before, but it can adjust heaps of things on drives, so it might turn the trick.

It's still brand new isn't it. I would take it back to the place of purchase and get a free replacement under warranty.
It shouldn't do that to any CD/DVD no matter what speed it spins at. Loose housing? Loose spindle? Off-centre spindle?
I just tried mine. Absolutely no vibration at all, even when tilted and moved around in midair whilst playing a home-made DVD.

Actually it's very likely that it will. A CD/DVD spinning is just like a gyroscope. It will try to maintain it's position when suddenly moved. Also, if the disc is not qite uniform, it will start to rattle at high speed.
I still have a year to claim warranty, so I will see what happens. I nly have issues when it's not on a stable platform ...

OK, can't be done.
So as a last ditch effort, I look where the disc is bent and bend in the opposite direction. Now it works!
