thread title speak for itself, isn't it?
Had a bit of a break down while updating my hardware.... and the partition division of my HDD is all screwed up, and ALL my data unreadable.... i know the data is all here, it's "just" the matter of putting the partition table right again.....
i've been browsing the net for solutions.... and actually found some:
1. pay a company lot of money to retrieve my data...
2. pay less money and invest in a software which hopefully will do the job too....
anobody got other brillant ideas? know some freeware which could do too?

What's the error message?
Perhaps it's bad sectors right where your data is? :D

boot from a second HDD and see what you can do.

the drive was running from a windows vista RC2.... and that's when i tried the recovery tools on the cd that it went all wrong....
but thanks for the suggestions Primal!

Had a look at it the other night, and got a message about the filesystem being past the end of the volume.
The partition table is weird, it's got one small partition taking up a tiny part of the drive, and that's all... putting in a partition the size of the whole drive didn't fix it though.

and if Archangel can't solve it that means that's serious...

We just paid $2k at one of those data recovery places :o
I've have copies of Ontrack's data recovery software and R- Studio. I've had reasonable success with them.
The good thing about those Data Recovery places is they usually test first to see if they can do anything.
There was a place in Sydney we used to use, and they were economical. Send the drive to them and it only cost $200 max to get stuff off it.
I'll try to find their number

Whenever someone's willing to pay good money to retrieve something from a hard disk, there's got to be porn involved. :D
And the moral of the story is ............
If you've got something worth keeping, BACK IT UP!!!
