With the recent Chewton shoot missing some of the higher ranked archers many others have been able to move up the rankings. Check it out at
http://comps.dva.asn.au/03targetchamp.lasso
you can now click on each archer and see their shoot by shoot results.

Nice one Marcus!!!

Will the Juniors be going up there to??

We don't do a Jr shooter of the year because we only really had Sten shooting comps and felt it was a bit of a default prize. If we get 3-4 Jrs shooting comps this year I will impliment one.

You could vote in the DVA poll for what to shoot next in league next.
then enter some comps :)

Whats wrong with a default prize? But, yeah, we need more juniors. Marcus is getting tired to losing to me, he has to lose to some other pipsqueak once and a while.

How does your Target shooter of the year competition work?
do you shoot different rounds each month and get awarded points or scores that accumulate.
do you have any sort of handicap system?

Marcus

this might help explain it

It's a system that Mike came up with where points are awarded based on results at shoots, with more important shoots worth more points.
Seems to be working well so far.

thanks Marcus,
seems that if you attend more shoots than anyone else, and perform reasonably well. you should win this comp.
which is why it is called archer of the year. The best archer will not automatically win unless he shoots regularly.
A less skilled archer could shoot more often and accumulate points and win for the year. Along the way his skill improves because he has shot so much.

Thereby improving attendance at shoots and as a side effect, skills.
Not a bad system,

Ah very astute! That was the idea behind it. We have quite a few shooters who think they are the best, but unless they go to shoots and prove it they can not win. Also this awards those that put the time and effort into representing DVA.
In 2 years we have gone from having 2-3 archers attending shoots to around 20 at each shoot. We did get an excellent member injection from some established shooters, however our own developed archers have also increased in attendence.

I see that you have some results from the outdoor leauge but not all, Is there a reason for this?

Marcus

Laziness. I did the first week and that is all.
I will do the final week too to reflect those who improved.
Fair bit of work to corralate the information.

Well done,
Good to see it has worked, we might have to try something like that at our club next year. Our club membership continues to grow. however, our members attending big shoots continues to dwindle.
I guess it's because the open shoots usually wreap little rewards for the not so skilled archer. But if they were playing a bigger game with potential rewards, It's a whole other can of worms. :)

You have to push people too. Take the form and walk over and say "OK we have a comp on and you are shooting it" etc etc.

mmmm I may have to enter the indoor Championship just to get some more points..
