I'm not good at this so I'm asking for assistant.
I want to convert an Mp3 file to play on a Cd player. I have downloaded file converter software but I'm not sure what to convert it to. I'm thinking WMA, is this correct?

No, CD's have uncompressed PCM audio on them. Not the same beast as WMA at all.
Most CD burning software will do the conversion on the fly for you - I just tell mine to burn an audio CD and drag the songs into it. One hopes yours would work roughly like that.

Something like Nero does the job nicely

Thanks, you have set me on the right track. I tried the burning progam that come with Windows XP. It worked but the sound is really wonky and distorted.

Do you knwo what the bitrate is?
And are you sure it's not the CD player speakers?

No, it's not the speakers. It wasdisorted on both the computer & the Cd player. Where do I go to find the bitrate?
Go get yourself Winamp. www.nullsoft.com
It will display the bitrate and will also expand your MP3's so that you can play them in a normal CD player. You'll need burning software, but there's heaps of that for free on the 'Net

The burning thing built into Windows is quite good at producing coasters to put your coffee on. You're better off finding something else if you want to actually listen to them though - as The One suggested, Nero works well, or it did the last time I tried it.
I wouldn't worry about the bitrate - if it sounds okay as an mp3, it should sound no worse burnt to a CD. If the bitrate of the mp3 is too low, there's nothing you can do about it unless you have an uncompressed version, in which case we wouldn't need to be having this discussion ;-)
This one isn't bad for totally free.
It should sort your burning problems out.

Get Nero.
Burn Audio CD.
Enjoy.
Note: The mp3's should be atleast 128-256 bitrate for good-enough quality...
