Hi All,

Sorry for the late notice about this. :o

SUAC is holding a informal Novices competition on Anzac day, this coming Friday.

It will be held at The Square, Uni of Sydney, from 10:30am registration until we finish the shoot.

Entry is for all Novices (defined as joining archery in 2003, and have not shot before) from all Uni's as long as they are covered by their appropriate Sports Union insurance.

We know as definites that UNSW people are welcome to come (confirmed by our Sports Union).

It will be $5/person entry.

It will be a nice and easy 20m on 122cm faces (on Stramit boards).

The official number of rounds is yet to be determined, and the prize (if any) is also yet to be determined.
(They will need to bring their own bows, arrows etc.)

We will also be having our mini Cafe running to sell Coffee, drinks etc on the day, and lunch may also be organised (not included in entry).

Please get your novices to come if they can and are not committed to any events on the day. It will be a good starting point for Inter-Uni competitions.

And hopefully it won't rain out. :(

Thanks

Heya Don

Pity I can't make it to the comp. I'd love to come to watch and give you guys a hand. Oh well ... there's always next time.

Have a good one!

A addition to the information.

Thanks to Benson's Archery Warehouse, who kindly donated first prize, we are offering a $50 pair of Binoculars as First Prize and a Plastic armguard (much better than club dodgey leather ones) as second prize.

Due to Friday being a public holiday, we may have difficulties organising a lunch, so please be prepared to either have your own, or forage for it yourselves.

Pround parents, and other interested folk are welcome to come and watch as well.

Heya Don!

How did the comp go? Haven't had a chance to drop by Maverick and ask about the target yet. Probably do it next week sometime.

Cheers!

The rain cleared for the shoot, and everything went very well.

We fielded 11 shooters for the day, with only 1 UNSW shooter (Mark Lewin I think is his name) and the rest USyd people.

20m, 122cm faces, 15 ends of 6 arrows.

Possible Score of 900.
(I can't remember the exact scores, will confirm them on Tuesday when I retrieve the folder)
First Place - Hamish Hill, USyd, 750's
Second Place - Matt V. , Usyd, 640's
Third Place - Mark Lewin, UNSW, 620's

Most of the novices did really well, with a majority scoring low 40's on average for their scores. Hamish really kicked arse on it, getting 48's and 50's for a few rounds.

Overall, it was a excellent day, and after the competition, Hamish started using his Binoculars to check out his shooting on the 50m target we set up. 8)

I really think we should do a Novices competition every year, a few months before the "July" interuni comp, so it gives them a opportunity to feel what competition is like, and understand it, so they don't get nervous and all that stuff.

Now, just a bit of planning left for the July shoot, in which we are still trying to secure a long distance field for the Adelaide shoot.

Silly Me
I had a digital camera, and I took the scores on the camera, but I can't download it because it's a friend's camera, and my PC doesn't have the appropriate slot for the mem card.
But on reviewing it here are the breakdowns of the scores.

1st - Hamish Hill 753
2nd - Matt V 676
3rd - Mark Lewin 663
4th - Jonathan 632
5th - Lauren 618
6th - Carl 612
7th - Wilson 568
8th - John 545
9th - Steven 519
10th - Ranson 461
11th - Grace 418

Hamish's score breakdown - 47,50,52,45,47,50,46,47,54,52,56,50,50,52,55

With 5 X's.
Average of 50.2 Which isn't too shabby at all for a Novice, having only shot maximum of 16 times with 3 arrows most of the time.

I knew Mark would place! He's only ever shot indoors, had no sight markings for 20m and on the tuesday before the shoot I had a mad rush to get him some arrows and I made him go up 4# so that the arrows would be the correct spine :D Coolies.

Hahahaha,
Ah, but the interesting thing is, that none of our shooters were using a stabilizer or sights. All barebow shooters.
8)

Their arrows were probably matched for length and spine, but definately not suited for all of them, pretty much all too long for most draw lengths.

I didn't check Mark's bow, but none of our guys have buttons or anything besides a simple stick on plastic rest :)

So I think they did ok.
