Just like to advise that the dates for the Sherbrooke Silver Cup ( 2 Day Field) has been changed to the 24th - 25th August, 2002. A flyer will be out to all clubs shortly. AV have approved the change of dates.

The first date allocated to us would have had the event running on Father's Day, which on past experiences is not a great idea.( in these days of commercialism)

:D

How much are Sherbrooke planning on charging this year?

Marcus,

The Silver Cup pricing has not been confirmed yet by our committee but I would expect no increase this year

I've got a funny feeling that the topic of this thread is about to get nasty with discussion of fees!!!

Just remember, the event requires new faces, the payment of judges, considerable organisation and, finally, it is a 2 day event, so immediately double the fees you might expect for a 1 day event. I think thats going to come to $30 plus...

Judges cost $20 each per day, which in my opinion is why there aren't enough of them, who'd put up with that rubbish for $20????

Let the debate begin again...

it must be said though that the National selection trial coming up in June only cost $25 to register for (it is a 2 day shoot), and that is a Fita approved selection event with full judges etc. Although I am sure that AA are footing some of the bill for that.

It is a problem though, because the trial will be a very high quality event in terms of the standard of shooting and competition and it seems strange that it cost only $25 to enter whereas a similar style state event costs $35.

Anyway, don't want to upset my clubs committee or anything....politics, politics politics....

I don't think it has to get nasty. I hope Sherbrooke is capable or feedback, negative as well as positive. I know Robert is and without open discussion we can't improve the sport. Many events just have number dwindle because people don't want to say "I'm not coming because I don't like" and leaves the club with a guessing game.

The judges are over priced. They should at least know the rules before we pay them :( :x :x

Target faces cost, so do targets and the club should make money. But I heard the trophies cost $1000 last year. Also why the State Target cost $35 when the medals are provided by AV is also beyond me.

As I said, not getting nasty, just feedback. I welcome negative feedback for DVA comps as well.

I am with you on the judges. There is way too much discrepancy between them, and it is rediculous when you have a situation where you can actually call a judge at the indoor to get a 10 when you know deep in your heart that it is a 9. Well, such was my experience at last year's state titles, and I am not afraid to say that or do it. Of course if I can get an extra 10 in a comp like that I will.

IT SHOULD NOT HAPPEN.

JUDGES SHOULD USE THEIR EYES AND THEIR BRAINS AND CALL IT WHAT IT IS.

There are some judges who I trust to call it correctly (one of whom is a life member at DVA) and there are others (dissapointingly) who I can trust to upgrade my arrow if I call them.

And we wont even begin on the rumor that the judges are going to come down hard on guaging at the trial. I cannot stand that kind of threat coming from a group of judges who won't even state what sort of guaging is and isn't allowed.

Very upset with the judging scenario overall, but, I think that paying them encourages their attendance, which is a neccesary evil.
