Hello all,
I was wondering if any universities offer Archery as a possible activity to do on campus. I move on to uni next year and am encouraged to take up archery again, can anyone help me?

Victoria, most likely RMIT, Swinburne Uni or Victoria Uni

As far as i know, Archery on campus really doesnt exist.
Monash used to have a club at the Clayton campus, but that stopped a long time ago. Short of making a club for the university community (where you'd be nagged constantly to teach the other students) i'm not sure there would be enough interest from actual archers (not too many people in archery at all, let alone enough people at uni to make a club feasible).
My advice is, shoot at a club near Uni, or near home, and fit it in when you can. (Uni is a joke, you'll spend more time doing nothing than attending classes :p, so you'll get a lot of shooting done if you make the effort, but there are times when you wont be able to do anything else because you've assignments/exams/beer to worry about)

Ok thanks man, thats a big help. But now comes another question, which clubs are near those unis?
Yeah i figure that im going to be living at the pub when im at uni (since i already do when im at home hehehehehe) so i gotta budget myself between archery and ........ recreation ;)

I'm living in a college (on campus) at UWA and they let me set up a target here - admittedly there is a good spot for it which is nice and safe. I think a lot of Unis probably had a club at some stage, however the problem is membership. If you were prepared to they might get behind you if you offered it as a facility to other students. Other than that I'd probably go with what Derek said - you just have to fit it in when you can. For the most time you'll be doing nothing with regards to actual study, but will have work(pfeh)/partying /drinking/ pubbing/ socialising/sleeping to do and will not have time for archery unless you really want it.

how come... you HAVE TO do it in a club? I think it's ok shooting outdoors, without a club.
I do this in my place... University of International Business and Economics... In Beijing, China. No one bothered me when I set up targets(very simple ones, of course) on the lawn and do some practice. As I put my target directly on the ground, I don't have to worry that missing arrows will go too far.
I use recurve, by the way.

OMG I would love to see someone try that in an Oz Uni.
Any Vice Chancellor would have heart attack thinking about public liability insurance.

LOL
I concur, we already had issues shooting on a relatively safe venue that caused us to be booted off our prime exposure field to another one... I can't imagine that we'd ever be allowed to just plonk a target say in the Quad or Front lawns for casual practice
hi Woody
why don't you check out Yarra Bowmen, we're a friendly, laid back club that is 50/50 recurve/compound (with a large number of barebows and growing) just google in yarrabowmen and that'll give you the details. and wots wrong with deakin, i'm doing psych. there, do you have a PROBLEM with deakin? the girls are just as good looking and the beer flows

Yeah thanks Hue, Yarra Bowman looks like a great club and its near a lot of my relatives. Nah mate nothing wrong with Deakin just that they're Civil Engineering courses aren't exactly that high on my preferences, and they don't offer Aviation. I'm sure the girls look great, don't they all? hahaha

that's reasonable. situations are quite different between US and China.
